S.N.A.P.E. September-October Art Contest

Sep 18, 2006 12:45

J. K. Rowling has said that someone loved Snape. I can't help but feel that it must have been his mother, the former Eileen Prince. He put her maiden name in his private nickname, identifying with her in secret, perhaps deriving strength from that identification, while maintaining his father's surname in public.

Your contest challenge is to draw Snape as a child, young man, or adult, with his mother, Eileen. He could be an absolutely hideous child, surly or pathetic, or a dear, the apple of his mother's eye, whatever you choose. She can be a mother-from-hell or an angel, or even a librarian, whatever you choose. All you have to do is use one of Mary Cassatt's paintings for reference.

You can find Cassatt's work here:
Your entry should:
  • Contain Snape at any age and his mother (but may contain other HP characters)
  • Kind-of keep the composition of the original painting
  • Be humorous!
  • Be done with ArtPad or a similar online drawing program -- take frequent screenshots!
  • Be posted as a response here, with a title and a link to the ArtPad drawing, if possible.
Remember that Rowling described Eileen as "simultaneously cross and sullen, with heavy brows and a long, pallid face." We all know what Snape looks like as an adult and teen, but how about as a child?

For any questions, please see snapeartcontest for guidelines and email contacts.

This contest will run from now until midnight where you are, October 28, 2006. The winner will be announced sometime between October 29-31. The longer time period is to allow the contest to get back on a monthly schedule beginning at the start of each month. Let snapeartcontest know if you strenuously object to this enlarged time. Also, if this is too long to go without your S.N.A.P.E. fix, please enter the contest currently running at snapeartcontest, Loose-Canon! Snape. I know I will!

Yes, there's a prize! I will make something out of the winning entry, either an icon (if you save a few screenshots, I can make an animated one like the userpic in this post), or a t-shirt or tote bag or apron (the latter two appropriate for a motherhood theme) if you don't mind iron-on transfers on cotton.
