J. K. Rowling has said that someone loved Snape. I can't help but feel that it must have been his mother, the former Eileen Prince. He put her maiden name in his private nickname, identifying with her in secret, perhaps deriving strength from that identification, while maintaining his father's surname in public.

My sister is mary-j-59, and she told me about this contest yesterday. I hope it's ok for me to enter.

My entry is called "Children playing with kneazle." It depicts baby Severus on his mom's lap, playing with a kneazle, held by his cousin Arabella. (Well, I suppose they could be cousins!) It's based on Cassatt's "Children playing with a cat"

And here's my (rather crude!) rendition. (I only just heard about the contest, and I've never used this drawing program before. I know it sounds like I'm making excuses. Which I am. So I'll stop.)

This is a wonderful painting, and very funny! The kitty's face is fabulous -- it certainly looks skeptical about that potion -- almost as much as little Sevvy looks determined! Your faces are amazing.
