S.N.A.P.E. September-October Art Contest

Sep 18, 2006 12:45

J. K. Rowling has said that someone loved Snape. I can't help but feel that it must have been his mother, the former Eileen Prince. He put her maiden name in his private nickname, identifying with her in secret, perhaps deriving strength from that identification, while maintaining his father's surname in public. ( No 'Lord Voldemort' for him. )

*tears up* I adore Cassatt, largely because my mother did and she introduced me to her. This is a beautiful challenge concept!

This is simply lovely, and hilarious when seen evolving in ArtPad. Little Severus in short sleeves! Get them started early taking potions, that's what I always say.

Hehe, thanks. It is almost a crime to mutilate that beautiful art, though.

Oh, this is fabulous. Severus looks like any child who just wants to get away from his corny parents. Good thing they aren't kissing -- he would have died.

And hooray! We have a contender!

Thanks for entering.

Thanks. This was my first time of actually getting all the way through a painting in Artpad. This is fun!

I love this! The colours are wonderful and you've managed to convey so much emotion on little Severus's face!

an attempt at an entry... aramintasnape October 20 2006, 18:45:51 UTC
Okay, so my artistic efforts leave a lot to be desired, but I just couldn't resist when I saw the painting entitled 'Mother Combing Her Child's Hair'...

This is so funny, I started laughing out loud at work when I first saw it, causing nearby people to give me peculiar looks and me to quickly switch to the work homepage.

The typed text is OK. Other people have done that in the past.

Thanks for a great entry!

Heh, heh! Thank you! I had to go for a humorous effect as I'm not good enough at art to draw a serious picture. But I'm very glad you like it :D

Based on Helene de Septeuil (and yes, &#@*! Artpad ate my first attempt, and tried to eat my second attempt, so ya get the screen capture instead, I'm afraid):

*ahem*

But it's not funny, of course. Blame &#@*! Artpad. :-p

It's so beautiful and poignant! Poor Snape. I wonder if he did get something better, after all. Lovely rendition of an industrial area, a frightened boy, and a loving mother. Thank you.

Gosh, do you want to give it a title? I almost hate to do it!

Title? (Dang; I knew I was forgetting something. :-D )How about just "Spinner's End"?
