I remember certain pieces we sang in choir, but probably none so vividly as a piece by Z. Randall Stroope: Inscription of Hope.  During WWII a portion of a poem was found scribbled on a cellar wall in Cologne, Germany.  Stroope completed the unknown child's poem and composed one of the most beautiful pieces I can remember having performed.
