They had taken this long to even get to the point where Alice felt pushed. Not that it was a bad thing, not utterly. She was settled, the camp was comfortable and now, well, now she was just itching for something to do. Something slightly reckless would be nice enough. But even then, it didn't have to be.

Of course, running through one of the lamest PT sessions she had ever put up with in her life and then being told to make her way to the courtyard for combat assessment, Alice isn't exactly sure if she should just blow a hole in the floor and tell them to combat that or not.

Although that might be seen as insubordination and thus take her completely off the mission possibilities and then she'd just be bored to death. Fuck.

Ethan had read the history and files he'd been provided with on Caine, her history, her mutation and the change in personality that had occurred after the death of her husband. All information that has been collected and collated by the Government and gave him an insight into the woman he was about to spar with.

The notes on her p/t session indicated that she was someone who obviously would enjoy being pushed and so Ethan doesn't waste any time in beckoning Caine into the cordoned off area of the sparring zone. Especially as she is wearing a look that either suggests she's bored by the entire matter or about to kill.

Ethan really hopes that she's just bored.

"No head shots, no going for the eyes and no use of your mutation. This is a sparring session but please feel free to use what combat skills you do have to their full extent." Ethan ensures his mutation is in place before taking up a stance similar to that of a boxers though, he's obviously waiting to see what Caine will do before he fully reveals if he is on the offensive or

For the most part, Alice generally carries that look; it's one that states she's entirely fed up -and not just with the situations, not just with the people around her, but with everything. She just has too much respect for a faith she lost belief in to take the easy way out.

Her eyebrow raises slightly as the Captain takes position and gives her the guidelines. He takes on boxing, Alice falls into her karate training. Jonathon made her take it up, just in case, he'd said. Before the powers really became evident, before she knew how to operate them better, he'd wanted her with a level of protection, in case something went wrong.

She brings her leg up in a swipe to knock his wrists away from his face -she could manage the no head shots, Sykes had a target in his shoulders and torso, and Alice was slight enough that his knees would make a good place to focus as well. And he did say she wasn't to hold back.

Unlike most others Ethan has been sparring with today Alice really doesn't hold back, he's forced to lower his wrists at the high kick, but evades the next move only because he sacrifices a chance to try and land a blow. Boxing alone is not going to suffice in this match against Alice so Ethan is forced to shift to his mixed martial arts.

Matching Alice's own kicks Ethan opts for a low-roundhouse kick, trying to knock Alice off of her feet or at least get her to back up enough so that he has a chance to grab hold of her. There is no question in his mind that Ethan will be giving Alice a green form and requesting future sparring sessions with her.

He's not had this thrill of a worthy opponent since he went a few rounds with Rogue when she still had Daken in her head.

"No."

Hope crossed her arms over her chest and stared down the Captain. This little exercise was utterly ridiculous and while she was normally a very reasonable person and more than willing to follow orders, this was just a step too far.

She was a doctor, not a soldier, not a combatant and certainly not someone anyone with any military sense would send on a combat mission. Thus, this was an exercise in futility.

"I am not fighting you, nor anyone else in this camp. If you're done playing gladiators, I'd like to return to my lab."

Ethan is staring at the Doctor like perhaps he missed out on something, in all honesty he had not expected her to want to participate in the physical side of the assessment, let alone the mutation side with Emma. He had not even been surprised when Atticus had skipped his p/t assessment. Anyway, he and Frost had already discussed the fact that Doctor Chandler was unlikely (read:never) to be sent on a mission due to a range of factors ( ... )

She bristled, not because the Captain so casually dismissed her abilities in a fight. She had none and was perfect fine with this. However, just tossing out that she couldn't had injuries or any medical emergency was a rather low blow, completely childish and just grated.

Still, she was not going to get into some silly sniping contest with him. The Captain was wrong, on all accounts, when it came to her medical capabilities and working under pressure. There was no need to correct him now when she would most likely prove this at a later date.

"I have beds and nurses waiting for anyone who is injured during your little exercise," she said smartly. "You can send in anyone you need to at any time."

Childish? Perhaps it should be considered a case of the pot calling the kettle black. If the Doctor perhaps approached conversations with the Captain with less of a constant tone of condescension and attack, and was more willing to try and at least see matters from his point of view, then maybe he wouldn't just give up and treat the Doctor like he would some lowly private. Like his Momma said anyway, if there is nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all ( ... )

Late to the party, Betsy sauntered up the field. After a day full of assessments, Ethan was covered in this rather appealing sheen and she couldn't help but tilt her head and just appreciate the view. Of course, that led to her wondering once again what someone like that could want with Team X's little ball of sunshine? Emphasis on the little. What a waste.

She gave it a few more seconds then straightened up again and called out to the Captain. "I do hope you have a little energy left for me."

Ethan has his back to where Betsy is, he honestly hadn't been anticipating her attendance as he was reasonably confident in her abilities with hand to hand combat. Yet he was hardly going to turn anyone away.

He's got his tank shirt pulled off to use it to wipe at his face, having recently completed another training round, this time with Alice. Blessedly his mutation ensures Ethan doesn't easily get out of breath or lose energy that quickly, yet he still is feeling it after spending the whole day sparring and training with the team. it's a good burn though, the kind that lets Ethan know he's being using his body.

Turning to look over his shoulder Ethan tugs his shirt back on and schools his features from surprised to poke face void. "I do hope you aren't questioning my capabilities there Braddock?"

For once though, Ethan is in a good mood and poke face or not he is willing to have a bit of fun.

Slipping her sweat jacket off her shoulders, she tossed it aside and tightened her ponytail. "Capabilities? No. Your stamina? Maybe."

All things considered, Betsy was in a pretty good mood herself. She usually was when she got to be physical. And this would be physical. Brains vs. Brawn. Beauty and the Brit.

As more cheesy taglines floated through her head, she smiled and circled her would be opponent. They could skip the rundown. This wasn't her first rodeo. She just wanted to get down to the dirty.

He knows she'll abide by the rules, no head shots and no use of mutant powers was permitted. The same thing was printed across everyones timetable but still he reminded her before Ethan stretches, returning to the center of the mat and raising his fists in a defensive gesture, bouncing on the balls of his feet as he watches Betsy.

Whilst Betsy circles Ethan turns, keeping his gaze and body towards Betsy at all times. She's not the time to try a sneaky move, but he would not put it past her to try and gain the upper hand by some other means.
