Another Hunt Completed *OTA*

Dec 30, 2009 18:27

All in all, it had been a very successful hunt, much better than the fiasco with Evan. Final score was one dead acid-creating mutant, one mutant hunter with burnt clothing and skin, and one hysterical hypnotizing mutant with a concussion. Jack, despite now being burnt (again), was feeling quite happy with this outcome. When he got back to camp, he ( Read more... )

On her way to the Med Lab for her shift, Hope noticed with mild interest that one team had returned from some business or another. She didn't much care, unless there was a new sample but if there was someone would bring one to her or the other doctor.

Still somewhat paying attention, she noticed Jack and noticed he was injured again.

"You're going to get someone to look at that aren't you?" she asked, fully intending to escort him to the Med Bay herself.

"Of course," Jack said with a small wince. His chest felt like it was on fire from where Talia's acid had burnt the skin.

Ideally, he would have preferred Dr. Milbury, but he could tolerate Hope. She had proven herself intelligent and well-spoken. Plus, anyone who had the patience to deal with his moody behavior was a saint. "Can't keep you without a patient for too long. You'll get bored."

She chuckled and gestured for him to follow her to the medical lab.

"I'd rather have no patients, actually," she said and opened the door for him to proceed her. "Care to tell me how you got that burn?"

He proceeded into the medical lab, and took a seat on one of the tables. This place was becoming a little too familiar for his tastes.

"I think it was some form of acid. My clothes took the worst of it, but this ain't no sunburn either." There was a slight wince as he took off the burnt clothes.

As she was walking to the mess to get some food, Olivia caught sight of Jack, her eyes widening as she stepped up to him. Her concern was immediately stark on her face, despite the fact that he was smiling.

"Jack! Are you alright?" she asked, looking over him, muting her concern a little. It wasn't proper. "Are you get hurt?"

Although he would never show it, the hunter was a little touched by the girl's concern. Deep down, it reminded him of the way Nora used to look at him after he came back from a hard day's work, all those many years ago. He hadn't had someone care about what happened to him in a long time.

"Only a little. You should see the other guy." It might have sounded like a joke, except Jack's tone was too serious. As far as he was concerned, this had been a success, if for no other reason he was still alive.

"That doesn't look like a little. You should go to the medbay...are those burns?" she asked, stepping forward, her gaze raking over his clothes and the exposed skin.

Worry flooded her. She didn't know or understand Jack's reputation like the others did. He'd been kind to her, at least in her opinion, and that was worth it's weight in gold.

"I plan to, and yes they are. Chemical, so they ain't too bad off." This feeling of having someone worry was rather enjoyable. If he let his guard down, he could grow to enjoy this feeling quite a lot.

"Don't worry too much. I've been through a lot worse, and yet here I stand." With a blind eye, clothes with acid-burnt holes in them, and small burns covering his torso. But hey, it was better looking than he had been after many of his hunts, including the last one.

Nicky sighed a little when he saw Jack shaking his head. "Again Jack?" He wasn't sure what to make of his friend's inability to keep himself safe. He knew he was a mutant hunter and had survived a long time but he wasn't sure how.

"You need to see one of the doctors."

Jack winked his bad eye at Nicky. Indeed, the boy was right. Perhaps his unconscious seeking of his own death was leading him to take unnecessary risks, in the hopes it would his undoing. Or maybe he was just an old man who was getting too slow for this line of work. "What can I say, kid? I'm a glutton for punishment."

"You got to be more careful,"he shook his head. He really wished he would be more careful he didn't want to have to see Jack's body one day.

"Want me to go with you?"

Jack shrugged. Nicky had a point. The hunter just had the self-preservation skills of an intoxicated lemming.

"Nah, I'll be fine." He knew the boy wasn't a fan of the medical bay

Jessie saw Jack coming down the hallway smiling to himself even though he sported burnt clothing and skin. She'd been keeping a low profile since she'd come back a couple of days ago and she didn't think that he'd known she had come back even after he'd warned her not to.

If the rumors she'd heard were true, she wasn't sure if she wanted to talk to him right now. Jessie turned on her heel and headed back to her dorm room. They would have to talk sometime, she knew.

But right now, there was just too much death.
