After a few moments, he finally managed to wrestle the tablet into doing what he wanted.

Oh. So that's it, then. She won't be the obedient child so she's no longer welcome. That's fine, Mattie is no delicate little flower, she's looked after her family and slept in the forest and killed a man, and if there's no one to around to help do what needs doing then Mattie is perfectly capable of doing it herself.
She slides off the bed and fastens her father's coat around her, shoving her feet into her boots and grabbing her few belongings to wrap them all in her dress.
"They said to use holy things, like holy water and maybe Bibles. You should get one." The last thing is to stick her hat atop her head, the effect slightly ruined when it drops nearly to her eyes. "I guess this is goodbye then, Mr. Draper."
