It's been a couple days since the attack and her phone call to Don, and Mattie's feeling better physically, but still a little wrung out emotionally. Mostly that manifests in being very quiet and trying convince Don to let her cook meals for him, and a noticeable absence of tiny sternfaces. Those weren't exactly questions that he was entirely qualified to answer, but that bandage was new and in an unfortunate place. He might not have been here all that long, but he was still more than a little concerned. It was far too easy to bleed out from a wound in that particular area. She seemed to have avoided that, but. He could still worry, even if he didn't know her that well.

After a few moments, he finally managed to wrestle the tablet into doing what he wanted.

"I know it is not! But this is where I am, and unless you can tell me how to go home, it is where I am stuck to stay!"

Oh. So that's it, then. She won't be the obedient child so she's no longer welcome. That's fine, Mattie is no delicate little flower, she's looked after her family and slept in the forest and killed a man, and if there's no one to around to help do what needs doing then Mattie is perfectly capable of doing it herself.

She slides off the bed and fastens her father's coat around her, shoving her feet into her boots and grabbing her few belongings to wrap them all in her dress.

"They said to use holy things, like holy water and maybe Bibles. You should get one." The last thing is to stick her hat atop her head, the effect slightly ruined when it drops nearly to her eyes. "I guess this is goodbye then, Mr. Draper."

"I heard what they said." Don stalks out the bedroom door and to the kitchen, where a bottle of rye's been waiting. Slops some into a glass and knocks it back. Mattie'll get her goodbye on her way out--flat, listless, as if he's already speaking to a corpse.

Mattie can't resist giving the door a little slam behind her, dropping her makeshift bag to the floor next to her feet and crossing her arms to wait for Stefen.
