Why I Refuse to Vote for Barack Obama

I am not a purist. There is no such thing as a perfect political party, or a president who governs in accordance with one's every ethical judgment. But some actions are so ruinous to human rights, so destructive of the Constitution, and so contrary to basic morals that they are disqualifying. Most of you will ( Read more... )

Third party candidates won't be viable unless the Republican party continues on its death spiral that started with Reagan. So if you want more parties, work toward hastening their demise.

How do the 92 elections, 2010 elections, and republicans in the white house for 3 out of 6 terms count as a death spiral?

During that time, Republicans have gone from Reagan to Bush to Shrub to Romney (who only won because the other front-runners were complete losers).
Likewise it has intellectually gone from Bill Buckley to Rush Limbaugh.

In its bid to hold onto failed economic policies it has moved from the party of attracting voters with common sense, intelligence and caution to the party of attracting right-wing radical ideologues, religious idiots, conspiracy theorists and tea-party morons to the point where even Reagan could not be nominated today.

And there lies a problem for all of us.

It's why I'm voting green.

I really like that test. It does a much better job at allowing for nuanced answers and more options than the usual "either/or" of most political quizzes.

It said I match mostly with Jill Stein. I wish I could feel more comfortable voting for a third party candidate in this election.

I got a 93% with Jill Stein and a 0% with Romney. Whoda thunk it?

I love his wishy-washy notions that any Presidents outside the 'establishment' would act differently. Or that the President is somehow responsible for all of Congress' decisions.

I love conceited libertarians like the one in the article. They can stay home for all I care, the 'both parties are the same!' rhetoric has been thoroughly debunked. People need to realize what's at stake here and as Samuel L. Jackson would say, wake the fuck up.

I'm already feeling a difference, since I get to be on my mother's insurance until I'm 26.

Try again.

I wish I had a nickel for all the anti-Obama articles and comments I've read that include "I won't vote for Obama again".

"Again" implies that the author actually voted for him in the past - which I seriously doubt.

I didn't write any articles, but I did, and won't.

No way. Weren't you an active member of the conservatism LJ community? All Obama supporters were banned from there.

I'm barely there anymore because of all the banning, the place basically sucked after that.
Some of the bannings seemed way too over sensitive.

Oh, and part of it was Sarah Palin + John McCains age. I liked her, but the thought of her being president, no thankyou.

One of the things that puts me off is his flip-flop on the issue of medical marijuana.

gunslnger September 27 2012, 23:49:30 UTC
Yeah, he claimed to be for medical marijuana in 2008, then he upped the crackdown, and now claims to be for it again? WTF?

On the upside, the fact that medical marijuana is one of those things politicians feel compelled to lie about at least shows a decent swing in popular opinion.
