I always thought 'Something Wicked' was an odd title, because, with the exception of 'Dead in the Water' the title was always mentioned in the episode somewhere, so it kinda stuck in my mind as weird. But yeah, I agree that Afterlife is a much better tittle. Long titles are just cluky and remind me of Charmed.

Well, that's an interesting point. *considers that* I liked that most of S1 episodes had such a direct relationship to the subject of the episode. Usually, referencing the MOTW itself. Other than being a familiar phrase, even Dead in the Water, if interpreted literally, does this. Asylum, Home, Route 666, location. Hell House does both, in a way. Faith (like Home, actually) was a little more abstract, and covered a LOT of ground, but still, subject ( ... )

Lol, I never complain when people ramble at/with me, I just love that I'm in a fandom where people think this much about the episode titles :D

See, I'm just the opposite. I have really enjoyed most of the episode titles in S2 much more than S1. Part of it may be just the fact that I like the pop culture references, and the nudge and wink Kripke seems to be giving fans. In My Time of Dying, from a Led Zeppelin song? Perfect. Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things? I may have laughed myself silly when I first saw the movie as a kid, but I still get a warm feeling to realize that Kripke is paying homage to the horror movie genre, and the stupid kids raising zombies genre. The Usual Suspects? Another movie reference ( ... )

Mmmm, that all makes sense. I loved Something Wicked too. I like the rhythm of In My Time of Dying, it just startled me because it was so different. Threw me off, and I don't like being startled.

But the main complaint that I have about S2 really is that they're so inconsistent. If they would stick to a new pattern, that would be fine, but they're kinda...random. Like I told slytherinblack last night, if there was pattern A for S1 and pattern B for S2, I would grumble simply because I don't like change, but for all the reasons you said you like them, it would make sense and I would be okay with that. My issue with S2 is that there IS no discernable pattern whatever, at least not to me.

I miss a lot of the pop culture refs because I didn't get any exposure to anything as a kid. My parents were very conservative fundamentalists, and we didn't have a tv and weren't allowed to watch movies. (Especially horror movies, or anything supernatural. My parents would be horrified by Supernatural itself.) So my 'catching up' on pop culture that I've done ( ... )

ah! *raises hand* i have a theory!

you've noticed the high number of lengthy, unwieldy titles in spn fanfic, right? well, i don't care what sane people say, i'm convinced some of the spn writers are acutely aware of what's popular in this fandom, and it has a direct affect on the show. i mean, we complain about jared's moles and jensen's freckles being covered or airbrushed and voila, next thing we know it's no longer an issue. people are always commenting on jared/sam's hair, and look at how often it changes. don't even get me started on the whole songvid thing:)

i think their spy is sera gamble... hey, don't look at me like that, i'm not crazy. well, maybe a little @.@

*laughing* Maybe so! Be nice to think so, anyway. I'd guess they pay some attention to what's said online, though it makes me sad to think they are probably looking in the wrong places. Most of the SPN fandom outside of LJ just plain scares me.
