CSA Farm Share 2011: Week 4

Jul 06, 2011 11:07

So much numiness! Except for the mizuna, anyway. Anyone want some mizuna? Also, while the parsley is excellent parsley, I'm not sure I can really use all of it. I guess I can make parsley pesto. Haven't done that in a while. But in the meantime, if you could use some parsley, let me know. Everythig else, though? Wow! Especially those peas ( Read more... )

I suppose this is one advantage of having u-pick for some things in my farmshare. I picked 5lbs of snap peas yesterday and we managed to find 1pt of strawberries, too. Also! Pickling cukes! I heart me some quick pickles.

I should try doing some salt pickling one of these days, though.

Yeah, the main good thing about RF was the pick-your-own and it worked particularly well since DD's place was 15 minutes away from there. When I can't go regularly, though, it's not worth it. The cost of gas would be way more than the value.

Steve does a mega PYO at the end of the season.

We entirely selected our current farmshare based on distance. It's less than 2 miles. An easy bike, even with the share in panniers.

Well, the pick-up is only a few blocks away. Less than two miles from here to a farm would be challenging, though I know from old maps there used to be some.

Why not dry the extra parsley? Sometimes, dried parsley works best (like in lasagna)!

It's a reasonable thing to do, and I have in fact done that the past few years, and therefore still have a ton of dried parsley. :)

I didn't know you wanted the plastic bags. Until last week I've been leaving them in the bin at CVS. Yesterday I gave some to persis for her CSA. Most of my bags come from the Boston Globe, which unnecessarily wraps my daily paper in them.

Unfortunately, the newspaper bags (except Sunday) generally don't work well for my farmshare's huge heads, which is why I specified shopping bags. I got some from Persis' stash yesterday, actually, but could still use more.

I have a fair collection of unsorted plastic bags of various sizes awaiting recycling. It sounds like some of them might be too small, but some might be useful. Whether it's worth the time to sift through them or not I don't know.

If you want, you can come for a visit, bring 'em, I can pick out what works and we can take a walk to Porter (or CVS apparently?) and drop off the rest for recycling.

We have a lot of bags. I'd offered some to Persis if she wants to come by (she's considering), but I imagine it would be easier for you. (And we probably have enough for both.) Just let us know if/when you'd like to swing in.

I suspect it would be easier for Persis since she already drives most places, whereas I'd have to make a special trip. I'll let her grab 'em and assume I'll find more local sources. Thanks, though!

(Typing while nursing with the boppy, btw.)

Whatever's best for you is fine. Just let us know if you decide you want some. (Glad the Boppy is useful!)

So, I had no idea what mizuna was until I googled it. If you're not going to use it, I'd be happy to take some and try it.

I have a stash of plastic shopping bags, and while the main reason I still have them is in case I need them for packing fragile stuff I quite probably won't actually need them for that (and have quite a bit of other packing material). Approximately how many would you like?

So, I could stop by tonight or tomorrow night and pick up some mizuna, drop off some bags, and, oh yeah, $80 I got for your CD shelves. Would that work?

Terrific! Tomorrow would be great.

ETA: And whoa, isn't that more than what you posted it for?? Have you considered a career in sales? ;)

It is more than what I posted for, but he didn't have the exact amount so offered four 20s, and when I said I'd run upstairs to fetch a five, he said not to bother.

Well, I am in Marketing. (But in spite of that, my craig's list ads have not had quite the impact I was hoping for for other things, so if you hear of anyone who wants chunky, heavy loveseats, I'm still looking for a buyer.)

See you tomorrow.
