On Saturday, our World of Warcraft guild (or part of it at least) got together for a party. It was the first time many of us had met, although we all knew each other pretty well anyway.

In honour of the occasion, and because I enjoy cooking, I thought I'd try to replicate one of the in-game foods: "Fish Feast".

When we bought the house, around 2.5 years ago, one bathroom had a set of 6 "globe" light bulbs over the sink. One was blown, one non-functional as the owner had bent the fixture when installing it and loosened the wiring. I mended the fixture and replaced the blown bulb with a CFL. I've seen quite a few news items recently on plans to build large scale solar farms.

On the surface this may seem like a "green" or "sustainable" power source, but as the Earth does seem to be going through a warming period currently, is lowering the planet's albedo really the right thing to do?

So after some deliberation, we managed to make a telescope choice!

So recently, my interest in astronomy has been rekindled.

( I don't post often, but when I do, it gets long-winded )

We (mostly Diane) got the last of the kitchen stuff packed away around midnight last night. Builders arrived 7:40 this morning, and got to work immediately.

Today is demolition - tear down cupboards, sink, hood, remove floor, punch a couple of holes in the wall to see why there are cracks over one doorway...

Sigh.

I went to a few astronomy panels at Worldcon, came home, dug out my binoculars and spent a frustrating while peering through the smog.

It's been a while since I did any serious amateur skywatching, but I think it's about time I put more effort in.
