When we bought the house, around 2.5 years ago, one bathroom had a set of 6 "globe" light bulbs over the sink. One was blown, one non-functional as the owner had bent the fixture when installing it and loosened the wiring. I mended the fixture and replaced the blown bulb with a CFL. As the other filament bulbs went, I replaced those with CFLs too.
About 2 years since the last replacement, 4 of those 6 CFLs have ceased to work. I would have thought that an estimate of 2 hours a day of use for the bathroom was about right, making the lifetime around the 800 hour mark, and order of magnitude less than the 8000 hours claimed.
But I don't have packaging, receipts or any other details with which to prove this.
So today begins an experiment. We just bought 6 identical CFLs from Lowes. Installed them all at the same time, and we will continue to use the bathroom lighting as normal.
This time I'm keeping all the packaging!
