Epilogue Key's eyes grew teary as he looked into the small mirror that Onew held over his face. The jagged, unattractive scratch near his eye still hurt, and he knew what it meant. "Which one of them did it?" he asked.
"Taemin." Onew busted the mirror against the headboard, and picked out a large piece of the shattered glass. "He said he wanted you to know he could have killed you."
"Why didn't he?"
Onew feigned innocence, moving the sharpest point of the glass shard to Key's chest, still under his shirt, and pushing it down into him, waiting until he was writhing and groaning before he answered. "Something about showing you the mercy you didn't show him."
"God," Key scoffed, "He's so fucking naive it's sickening."
"Tell me about it." Onew said, wrinkling his nose and stabbing the shard further through Key's chest, causing him to yell out. "By the way. How did he escape from The Council?"
"Why would I tell you that?"
Onew left the shard in Key's chest as he reached for another of the mirror's pieces, lifting it up to scratch along next to the cut in his face. Key screeched and jerked his head away, "I'll tell you."
"That was easy." Onew said, giving Key a cocky grin.
"Only because it's no secret." Key said, scowling. "Lee Taemin comes from a family of hunters. The Council was going to clear up the mess at the police station, and they found it there. The switchblade, I mean. Vampires don't forget the weapons that have killed their friends or scarred them, you know. So research was done, and shocking surprise, his daddy killed more than 50 vampires by himself."
"50?" Onew asked.
"More than.", then Key looked amused, "I guess it doesn't run in the blood."
Onew reached down, and twisted the glass shard in Key's chest. But he agreed, saying, "Guess not." before he jerked the piece out of Key, causing him to gasp in pain.
"Go on." Onew said, smiling fondly.
Key rolled his eyes, "So they decided to use Taemin to find more hunters. They advertised who's son they had in hopes that hunters would come to the rescue. Lee Taemin's dad, supposedly, had a lot to do with training the more recent generations~. And anyway, The Council was a mess because of the fire, so it was a good time for hunters to attack. Or rescue, whichever."
"So he didn't escape, but was rescued?" Onew asked.
"No." Key said, "Security was so relaxed around him so that he could be rescued, that he was able to get out on his own. Well, it worked out anyway. Hunters were all around, keeping an eye on The Council. I imagine his fucking new friends saw him and figured out who he was, so they took him in. Fortunately, we found them~."
"You found them so The Council would give you to me?"
"Please, Onew. You don't actually think I live my life around you, do you? There's a line between arrogant and ridiculous."
"So you found them just for fun?" Onew asked, scowling.
"I'm being considered." Key said, "For Heechul's position."
Onew's eyes widened, "Then Heechul..?"
Key laughed, "Is officially becoming a member of The Council."
***
Minho felt like shit all over again, back at school. At least Onew was safe, he kept thinking, and then wondering why that was so comforting. He thought, he'd have to introduce Onew to Minseok very soon.
He'd given Minseok a call, which had included a lot of yelling and "You're lucky I didn't call the police!". Apparently, Sungmin had locked him in his own apartment. Something about that was kind of funny to Minho, honestly. He could remember Minseok doing things like that to him when he was a kid. Of course, not in the same serious situation, but he'd still laughed - which had really not made Minseok much happier.
Maybe, Minho thought, he'd feel better about Onew once his family understood what was going on.
On the other hand, he wasn't so sure he wanted his family to understand what was going on. He really wished it wasn't going on at all.
And, it turns out his roommate had apparently vanished over the weekend too. Minho had a bad feeling about that, and wondered if everyone in his life was as doomed as him.
Still, he made it through the day, and it wasn't that bad of a day. After all, he'd only made it back in time for one class - which was easy enough, and then he was dorm room bound for some extreme make up work.
Even after a second shower, the faded ink of Jonghyun's phone number was still a bit visible on his hand, and he kept drifting off staring at it. He'd even added it to his contacts, after he'd retrieved his cell phone from "lost and found". He wasn't sure why. He certainly wouldn't be calling Jonghyun any time soon.
Whatever had happened to Jonghyun, he still wasn't sure. And he really could care less, as long as the guy stayed out of his life.
He had to admit to himself, though, that he'd be much more at ease if Taemin had finished Key off. It was hard to see it as murder. No, Minho had seen murder too many times now, and he absolutely despised it - so he wouldn't be capable of wishing for someone to be murdered. Getting Key out of this world wouldn't be something so horrible.
His own thoughts were beginning to disturb him when someone knocked on his door.
"Who's there?" he asked, not getting up. He glanced out the window, saw that the sun had set - just how long had he been at this homework? - and got up, hoping to see Onew. However, as he approached the door, the voice that spoke from behind it was unfamiliar.
"Open up!" it said impatiently.
When Minho did, the two men that stood there looked like.. celebrities. Their high fashion clothes, and their beauty... instantly made Minho think vampire, and he started to close the door, but the taller of the two held it. He was handsome and muscular, with thick brows and stylish black hair. The shorter of the two, who smirked and barged in - passing both thick brows and Minho - was tall, but looked so feminine that Key seemed masculine with long dark hair pulled back in a ponytail, neater and straighter than Taemin's. Although he was attractive, Minho looked right at the man's eyes - and thought there was something all too psycho about them.
"You're Choi Minho, aren't you?" The man with the ponytail asked, turning back to face him. "... No." was Minho's reply, as he glanced between the two.
The man with the ponytail laughed, a harsh and loud laugh, and he slapped Minho hard on the shoulder. "That's a good one. He's funny."
Ponytail looked to Thickbrows, who busied himself closing the door, instead of joining Ponytail in his amusement.
"One more time," Ponytail said, staring way too hard at Minho with those psycho eyes, "You're Choi Minho, aren't you?"
Minho looked between them again, knowing he had nowhere to run, and knowing he wouldn't get far if he tried. Finally, he just said, "Leave me alone."
"Rude." Ponytail said, and looked to Thickbrows. "Go on~ do it."
Thickbrows grabbed Minho by his shoulder, pushing him face first into the wall. Minho struggled, thrown into a sudden panic, and heard a whispered "Sorry", before fangs sank into his neck.
He screamed "no" so loudly that the entire campus must have heard, but even if a SWAT team came in, they couldn't save him now. His bond with Onew was gone. He was going to die. His eyes shut, and he saw black.
