I read the novella Diamond Dogs by Alastair Reynolds last night, and I'm still disappointed. Mostly because I like Alastair Reynolds - he (usually) writes clever things. I learned a thing
So I was introduced to a new word today (thank you Greg Egan): solipsist.
Not an alien concept, to be fair, as it ties in with some of my favoured theories on perception and the nature of (virtual) reality, but I'd somehow never encountered the word for it, let alone realised there was an entire school of philosophical thought. Neat. -

2009 so far
So yeah, seeing as I haven't updated in six months, I thought I'd go over some of the things that have happened this year. In rough chronological order:- Olivia broke up with me. Didn't take that so well, all things considered. Bit of a mess for a few months.

So my PC has died, which is proving somewhat inconvenient. grandhoohaa reckons it's the motherboard, and he's probably right. Not so surprising - it is four and a half years old, after all. Time for a new one then. I'm wondering if I should maybe go for a laptop this time? -

Christmas
Festivities started early this year with Pete's traditional booze run (slightly shy of four hundred quid this time) last Tuesday, followed by a pre-Christmas celebration at his (on the grounds that most of us were going to visit parents/family for the next couple of days). Work was tedious last week, to the point where I ceased to even pay attention. Once again, it was all about the after-school activities.
