You may remember how, back in January, I mourned the end of on of Chicago area's most unique magazine - the Today's Chicago Woman magazine. Catering to middle and upper-class professional women, it was committed to its mission and unafraid to share it's opinion. There was nothing else quite like it... At least until now.

The news broke on December 23, but, for some reason, I managed to miss it until now.

The January 2015 issue of Today's Chicago Woman, which came out a day after Christmas, turned out to be its last. Founder and owner Sherren Leigh decided to shut down the magazine.

And honestly - I'm more than a little sad.

Back on November 14, a day before my 10th chemotherapy session, I submitted a short story to Chicago Reader's upcoming Fiction Issue. It's the story I mentioned in an earlier post. I don't really know who Natalie Nunn is - she appeared in a reality show I never watched. But her name came up in an article, and I dropped her name in Google, just to see what comes up.

Over the past few years, we've seen magazines old and not-quite-as-old going online only or, in most cases, closing altogether. But we've also seen online-only publications putting out print magazines. Just recently, we've seen a New York literary magazine cut back its online presence to focus on print, simply because it made financial sense ( Read more... )
