Poem stealing

Mar 21, 2008 16:17

I've had a problem with a FFN user called The Battling Bard, aka The Last Temptation of Homer. Me and a few others have caught her (or someone associating with her) attempting a frame up. It appeared she signed onto a LOTR site with my penname and then copy pasted stories that weren't hers or mine onto that account. I have screens, and one of the ( Read more... )

Well, our basic system is to ask people if they are the same person or not. Have you tried to reach terachi-KAIshaku?

I'll try contacting Kai as well as Battling Bard regarding the poem.

There are certain parts of the post I'm not quite following what the connection and it's importance, such as Here is another screen of her author page: note the URL and compare with the URL from Exhibit A screens. Now, unless someone "hacked" her and used her diction (and she never noticed?) then this is proof she made this Myfandom account herself.

I'm not getting how the URLs and the Myfandom account connect to each other and what it proves. If you could clarify that, that would be quite helpful.

Thanks.

She has claimed someone hacked her (I doubt that very much) when the first accusation happened, and I wanted to cover every possible explanation she could give. I made note of the URLs just in she hurries and edits that profile. Those URL's go to where I screencapped the poem.

As for Terachi, she is MIA. I tried contacting her from Fiction Press and her Deviant account. No answer. I think she has a Yahoo profile, and her location is Asia somewhere. A far cry from Bard's United Kingdom, but hey, people have different persona's online all the time.

That makes sense now that I'm on board about showing the connecting between the two accounts.

I tried Kai at the yahoo address, but it's no longer active. It doesn't appear she's posted anywhere since 2006, so I'm thinking she's gone inactive, fandom wise.

I've sent Bard an email and I'm awaiting a reply. I just noticed the ETA piece. It will likely be Monday before I can look them over. Thank you again for doing up screencaps. They are quite helpful, particularly if things are deleted before I have a chance to get to them.

You're welcome! Thanks for the help; it's appreciated :)

Have a good Easter :)

P.S. It's always good to meet another Buffy Fan, lol.

If I may, I am Maiafay's partner in this expose, and I can shed some light. In the past, The Battling Bard has disavowed responsibility for accounts with problematic stories, claiming she was hacked by those who wish her ill. In the above examples, you will see a direct link from The Battling Bard's Profile page at Fanfiction Net, linking directly to the Felagund's Revenge story at the Myfandom page. This proves that The Battling Bard of Fanfiction Net and The Battling Bard of Myfandom are one and the same.

Thank you. The documenting of identity is making better sense now.

I've tried a yahoo address I found for Terachi Kai, and it too bounced. Let me know if you have success finding an active address. It's always helpful (but not a deal breaker) to get in touch with the author.

Someone must have said something to her, because I finally got in touch! She noted me last night on Deviant art. I updated the link I gave her and linked her back to this entry. Now we should at least get her input on this mess.

Yesterday I had the brainstorm to message a few people on Deviant Art who had left responses to Kai's last message and appeared to still be active on DA. I figured if I were to go inactive on LJ, there are several people here who have a variety of ways of getting in touch with me. I figured the same was probably true for Kai.

ETA2: It seems Bard has removed her MyFandom account entirely, and has edited her FFN profile to omit the links shown in my screens and has deleted the story shown in my edit.

Actually, she hasn't. the site was just moved to another URL and redone in looks. It can still be found here.

While "Felagund's Requiem" has vanished from that site, now, it was still up at the 22th of March, 7:58 GTM (please note that the time given in the screenshot is GTM +1):

here is the screenshot from the site in question (compare URL's); here is a shot from the contents of the page (still, same URL); here and here are shots from the poem at that site (I have two more shots of the whole poem, but I think the identity of the content with Terachi's poem was established already ( ... )

Ahh, my mistake then, sorry about that. Thanks for the update Aislynn :)

I just hope they are still investigating.

Thank you for the update. Let me check on something. There was a separate poem called "Felagund's Requiem" that was different from "Arwen's Requiem"?
I know in Kai's original version, it is to Felagund, but I thought in all of Bard's versions the name used was Arwen. If it is a separate thing, does someone have a screen shot of the "Felagund's Requiem"?

Thank you.

I'm glad to hear about ETA2. Just so you know, sevvy_o is helping me with organizing the summary of this case. It may take a bit of time to get it posted, but we will be doing so.
