I like koalamoos idea. stiff fabric you can bunch up. and instead of ribbons- which is actually what dancers did in saloons to show off some leg. I would source out a couple of old narrow leather belts and use it in two pieces. do u know how to emboss leather? that would be a extra detail. i also like the frog closure on the vest suggestion as well. or check out some hardware shops, grommets, closures, and chain would be interesting as well.
