Making those Blasted Bloomers

The latest how-I-did-it on my blog is on my attempt to make a steamwenchy outfit  ... these bloomers were my first time sewing with a pattern since grade school ... I've been a freestyle-wing-it costumer up til now).  I know the outfit needs more steam (open to suggestions!) ... but I seriously ran out of time (the bloomers took 4 times as long as ( Read more... )

Ah, the whole point was to be traipsing about in my underthings (and delightfully, still be more covered up than many con-costumes I've seen -and worn! - over the many years of going to sic-fi and fantasy conventions).

They look awesome, and I can attest to the omg-what-is-wrong-with-this-pattern flail myself. I needed serious help the last time I crafted something from a pattern. (A double-breasted vest.) Love the lace!

In my experience, patterns either run too small or ENORMOUSLY HUGE. This year my parents got me a dressform for Christmas so I could do my alterations without changing in and out of pins with some fabric interspersed. Pants and bloomers still require precarious adjustments, but I guess what's the fun of sewing without the risk of injury?

Also I love the lace and choker.

Ah, well if you know him your life has been enriched! He is a very ... yikes - "old friend" has connotations of age ... very dear friend I have known for many years, from when I lived on the East Coast and hung out with the medieval crowd.
