The materials - a generic lab coat, 1/8 of a yard of white cotton, 52 grommets, three heavy duty clasps, 7 d-rings, and about 4 yards of cording.

The results:

Heavy duty stainless clasps bought at Home Depot.

Attaching them meant I was sewing through 10 layers of cotton. I love my sewing machine.

Cinched up the sleeves at the wrist with a d-ring strap. I'm thinking about possibly adding a second strap at just above the elbow, but that would involve making more strap out of the remnants of the cotton, and I ran out of steam tonight.

To give the tent-shaped coat a figure, grommetting for lacing all the way up the back and at the waist on either side:

The husband suggested I should also add a d-ring strap closure for the collar as well, but I'm undecided. Hopefully tomorrow or this weekend I'll get a picture of it on the body, but it's late and he's asleep.
