thankyou!
i'm actually not doing the tea staining myself, its being done by a very nice woman on etsy who's matching them to the dress :)

and agreed, i was trying really, really hard not to go overboard in order to stay at least wedding classy, but i didn't want to leave as is either.
a choker with a cameo would be an awesome idea tho, thanks! but i think i'll avoid the long veil if i can.

Etsy's Steam Team actually had a wedding-item-themed contest fairly recently, for which I made an antique key necklace with bronze-toned pearls and crystals. I think that piece is a bit too stark for your dress, but a piece of jewelry which had some subtle steamy elements might work well, and depending on what you want to do for a headpiece, a fascinator could be another way to have a steampunk touch that isn't too overt or jarring. I know a number of Steam Team members have done wedding themed work; it might be worth doing an Etsy search for 'steamteam wedding.'

I think using silk rather than fresh flowers is also an excellent idea, on its own merit as well as for steampunk purposes. That's actually what my sister did, with wooden flowers for centerpieces. Both the silk and wood flowers were beautiful, less expensive than most fresh flower options, and made scheduling much easier, since there was no worry about them wilting. :-) Also easy to choose colors and embellishments to match what you want.

thankyou! i actually did a search for the etsy steam team for weddings, but it looks like at the moment its mostly cufflinks right now.

i actually agree about using the silk flowers instead of real ones, which i have every intention of adding peacock feathers too along with a few other misc things if i can get it all to look right. :)

that key necklace is beautiful btw!

The dress is fabulous! Way more Regency than Victorian, however. Not that you can't steam up Regency. I'd go with dainty boots (not that different from Victorian boots would be) and then cruise some regency costume sites for inspiration. They had oodles of charming high waisted coats and jackets, spencers and such that would look lovely with a high-waisted gown. A spencer jacket with little miniature tails would be adorable in white or ivory velvet with silver or pale blue trim.

If you don't want to add a jacket, consider a long rectangular shawl in a sheer fabric, embroidered with steampunk gears on the edges.

thankyou! and i agree, with the empire waist the dress is sporting, it isn't so much victorian as it is a bit earlier, but oh well. the lace makes up for it and i really love the antiqued look it has X) that being said, i think i'm going to avoid covering with a jacket simply because i love the look it gives without being strapless, like most wedding dresses today.
i like the idea of a shawl tho, especially since its going to be march, haha.

Hey, I never said steampunk HAD to be Victorian! Just pointing it out so that if you decided to mix your metaphors, you do it knowingly. I love the dress.

The period appropriate type of shawl for this would be a long rectangle that uaually drapes behind your back and then drapes over your elbows. If you are in a draft you can arrange it so it covers your shoulders, but it's really mostly ther just to be swishy and elegant.

i second the boots idea - especially if they're laced up, and fairly above the ankle. the fascinator also strikes me as something worth looking into.

what you might also consider is doing a more elegant ensemble for the ceremony and photographs, but go more whimsical and steamy for the reception, where it's generally ok to let your personality show through, even at a posh event.

thankyou! i would LOVE to do a two outfit wedding/reception, if only i could afford it, haha. although, adding a bit more to the ensemble itself just for the reception sounds kinda like fun, i just can't change it all completely.

gawd i would love a pair of white victorian boots, but man are they pricey. not to mention i have wide feet, so no such luck :(
