a technical question if i may, how did you get the bustle/drape on the model? it seems so form fitting! also how did you get that perfect amount of gathering on the drape? your photos have inspired me to attempt the same kind of drape on a bustle of my own.
It's actually two separate parts, and just took a bit of care and careful measuring to make sure they met in the right place. I finalized the bustle first, and then used the gathering in the waist front for the adjustment necessary. I have some in progress pics somewhere...
The apron goes on as one piece, and has a smooth back (the draping terminates where the apron meets the bustle) that fastens with snaps. The bustle hooks onto it at the back waist with hooks and eyes. Not quite pull on! In addition, there are ties that manage the poof of the bustle and keep it fastened to the apron at the bottom sides.
I found a pic of the apron on without the bustle, hopefully it makes more sense:
The basics are actually from a saloon girl outfit with some modifications, the original had the bustle sewn directly to the skirt and whatnot, and had multiple tiers in back, was single layer, etc etc.
Oh, I know I'm late to the party, but I just followed back from the link on the neck ruffles, and dayum, this is gorgeous. I especially love the black and white striped corset. Did you use patterns for the corset and bustle skirt, or were they self-drafted? Either way, great job!
