It finally happened! At 1:30 this morning (06-19) Karen gave me a terrific father’s day gift. Noah Lane Martin was 7lbs 15oz and 21 inches long. Mom and baby are both doing well after a relatively quick seven hour delivery. Karen’s water broke about 6:00 yesterday evening and we went right to the hospital. Yesterday I met with Dr. Jairus Ibabao here in Jamestown. He will be working with Roswell to keep me from spending too much time up in Buffalo by taking care of blood work and chemo treatments. Yesterday I went up to Roswell to get back the results from my test, and to get my first chemo treatment. The test results were very good. My blood test showed that everything was perfectly normal. The bone marrow showed no cancer. The cat and pet scans showed that the cancer was only in my right armpit area. This is classified as stage one. ( Read more... )

Today’s appointments were much better than yesterdays. I had my PET scan in the morning. I was surprised with the length of it; it took over two hours. When I first went in I got another radioactive injection. I was then led to a dim room with a lazy boy and a radio. I had to relax in there for an hour, and ended up falling asleep. Today’s appointments went well. My mom went out with us today to keep Karen company, and my Uncle Dennis met us up there. In the morning I had a MUGA scan. It is a video that looks at the heart over a 10 minute period. They use it to determine if my heart is strong enough to handle the damage from the chemo. My appointment at Roswell was yesterday. I was kind of worried about getting there, but we found it ok. The registration process was fairly simple, and everyone was really nice. I had a biopsy last Tuesday on the lymph node in my armpit. It had started hurting about a month earlier, and grew to be about the size of an egg. Yesterday I got the results and it turns out I have cancer. I have Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma to be more specific, and from the reading I have been doing it seems to be a rare type of Non-Hodgkin' ( Read more... )
