Photos later.

I've been busy sewing the past couple of days. I started by taking out one set of hand stitches on one front skirt seam, so that I could move the skirt over a half inch from the front lacing edge to underlap the other side at the front. 1/4" average whip stitch which is tighter than my mom's fast 1" stitch for hemming (which was done in a style all her own). It still took me parts of the past few nights, and even part of this afternoon to get it done. Well, I finally sat down and hand sewed my skirt to my bodice, using that tiny whipstitch method which nearly blinds me, but it allows the skirt to hang rather nicely right off the edge of the bodice ( Read more... )

Tonight, I finally pulled out my early Tudor kirtle, which looks a lot like most other kirtles I've made, except this time it is front lacing. I am encouraged to finish it, because of the lovely kirtle koshka_the_cat has made, and because I will need to either bring mine, or wear it, this Saturday for Academia. Finally finished the hand sewn eyelets on my simple early Tudor kirtle. About seven of them. About frickin time! Yeah, it took CoCo coming up this week to motivate me. My fingers are a bit sore, but I have one side of the bodice properly decked out in new eyelets. I might have done a few more if I hadn't stalled and done some internetz stuff for a short bit. I really am not fond of doing eyelets, but they must be done ( Read more... )

... all the pieces are now sewn along all edges. I started piecing them together, but I think I am making the seam too tight together, as it has a ridge, the seam looks more like a satin stitch, and having looked at the pics on the Elizabethan Seam, I know I am sewing it wrong ( Read more... )
