1500 Tudor kirtle progress

Aug 17, 2008 23:55

Well, I finally sat down and hand sewed my skirt to my bodice, using that tiny whipstitch method which nearly blinds me, but it allows the skirt to hang rather nicely right off the edge of the bodice.

I am wearing it right now without any bra on, and it is pretty comfy, supports me, and fits me nicely (and remember, there are no bones in it). I still have to adjust the back neckline, which I need to do on my dress form. And I need to hem it properly.

What I am not sure about is the front opening slit, which because I am sitting down, and because I have a stomach, means it is gaping open showing off my underthings (I am wearing my nightgown right now). I may put in eyelets to close the front (which may make the front rise up when I sit down), or I may just leave it as is. I am not sure yet.

But it is almost done! Tomorrow night, the hem awaits. And I will take photos when this is done.
