I'd like to move to Santa Cruz now. Norcal FTW. Socal is getting too hot for me.

The knee is getting better but I still can't kneel on it. My sprained thumb is only slightly better and the doc thinks I have nerve damage and may need physical therapy for it. My horrendously sore throat has extended itself into a hellacious earache as well, and they think it's a virus so there's nothing to do but pop yet more advil and wait it ( Read more... )

Today the beach was very cloudy and gray and still. The water was flat with barely a ripple. The pelicans were out in force, swooping over the channel and occasionally dropping out of the sky to dive with a tiny splash. I like the time change, it's nice to leave work in the daylight. Winter's long over and we're rapidly heating up for summer. I'm back on my feet and walking Brisbane in the middle of the day, but I'm not ready for five mile evening walks or jogs or chasing birds on the beach while fighting the wind. Had knee surgery yesterday. They removed a bunch of extra cartilage and also some floaty bits and I dunno what else they did because I was really, really drugged at the time. I have a new favorite kid at work. Chandler is in kindergarten, and he's a little kindergartener. He's got the voice and enunciation and coordination of a young five year old. He also reads. I'm ready. I'm ready to make apple pies and Halloween cookies and start planning what I'm making for Thanksgiving and look for recipes for Christmas cookies! Why is it still August!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???!?!?!?

On Wednesday we took the kids to McDonalds. The one with the playplace, across the street from the school. We go early to avoid crowds and the embarassment of shouting at other people's children.
