the smallest genius

I have a new favorite kid at work. Chandler is in kindergarten, and he's a little kindergartener. He's got the voice and enunciation and coordination of a young five year old. He also reads. And does algebra. He's a wonderful product of a Philipino mom and an extremely nerdy American dad, so he's also fascinating linguistically. Chandler has taken over my job of signing the kids out on my clipboard, I just have to tell him the name if he doesn't know it and he can find it on a two-page list. The rest of the kindergarteners aren't reading yet. His mom says he memorized their license plate numbers when he was three, so they started addition. Now he is doing fractions and cube roots and multiple variable equations.

Today Chandler says "What does pi equal? 3.14, that is cowwect. My dad knows more of it." Then he reset my watch to Philipino time.
