So, anyway. Still here, still pregnant, only for another month or so. Have been quiet due to dealing with the fallout some complications which risked me out of midwife care and into the wonderful world of high risk obstetrics. Sadly, the transition away from consistent care I was confident in to being dropped in the middle of a busy, complicated ( Read more... )

Yay for standing up for both, or rather all, of you! My own experience was that L&D nurses are awesome and amazing and ON YOUR SIDE so I hope that holds true for you as well since you are stuck with "urg Hospital!" I'd even say that being induced was in no way the horror-fest I expected it to be - not what we wanted but okay - and then we got a prize to take home!!!!

One trick to pass on for non-stress tests - if they make you do them - The Boy ALWAYS got really quiet when they were trying to run the tests so the nurses started giving me a big glass of ice water to drink just before - WHAM WAKE UP BABY!

Which reminds me of the side-benefit of all those tests - assuming your in L & D for them...you get to meet everyone beforehand, several times, so you ll end up seeing happy familiar faces who care about you when you get to delivery.

The good thing is that as long as I don't develop pre-e, and my bp stays under control, they do prefer spontaneous labor and will let me go as late as 41 weeks.

I do apple juice for the waking up, since he usually will otherwise sleep through them. :)

Would they let you bring your midwife with you? (that is, assuming that your midwife would be willing to continue without being your primary caregiver in this situation?)
I also second about L&D nurses being awesome, especially in high risk. Thinking positive thoughts here.

Sadly no. Which is kind of okay since I'm not happy with how my midwife handled the transfer anyway. I will have my awesome doula, though.

Sorry about the change in plans, but happy to hear that you're overall ok and sending good karma thoughts that you stay that way.
