Screw this, he thought. Lavi stood up and moved for the library doors. With his fine memory he was pretty sure he knew the way back to the apartments even with the thickness of the fog hindering his vision. He'd just have to move carefully and hope whatever was out there wasn't too much for him to handle.
Before leaving the building entirely he pulled down his headband and pressed it over his mouth and nose. If it helped keep him from fainting then it would. If not then nothing would be lost by doing it. So with stupid determination he stepped out into the fog, relying on his memory to map his way back to the apartments.

There was still some distance between them, perhaps ten or so yards, so he raised his voice and hailed him]
Lavi!

Ping? Where are you?
Reply
Wait where you are, I'm coming to you, okay?
[With that Ping once more picks up his pace, jogging steadily towards Lavi till he is a couple feet away.]
Right in front of you [reaches out a hand an inch from him] See me? [rummaging to get out monocle]

Well. There goes any brownie points Lavi may have gotten for suggesting a sensible course of action.]
What are you doing? [in his best commanding-the-soldiers voice]

What the hell do you--
[immediately turning and beginning to follow, of course. he hadn't seen much of the kid, but Lavi's face hadn't made him trust the other with it. the only reason he didn't completely dash off was Shang's voice.]
- Come on! You saw what he just did, yes?

...but in this one instance, yes, even Ping was a little confused. Still he was willing to give Lavi the benefit of doubt, there had to be a reason for this, and he didn't hesitate for a second in go after him]
Lavi! What are you doing?

Feeling the tension the little dragon stood up, patting Ping on the cheek.]
Alright! Whose with me now- take out's soundin' real good right about now. Don't know about you but this fog's given me the creeps. Let's hop too it people! The faster we move-
[He hunched down, ears pinned against his head.]
-the faster we get outta this corn soup.
[Whispers to Ping.]
So...why are we carrying the red-head again?

He frowned - what was that? Shang stared into the fog, intend - he could have sworn he just saw something moving in the fog.
He stared at the spot, but he could see no other movement. It could be a trick of the eye, or there could be something out there. Either way, Shang would remain alert.
"Stop talking," he said to Mushu. "Something could hear you. And your attention would be better spend keeping an eye out." Since Shang was busy focusing on the fog, he didn't turn to glare at Mushu - as much as he would like to - so he settled for a stern tone that was weighted down with displeasure.

Honestly, the chills had settled in a long time ago, for China, and so his hackles were up enough to take the Captain's glancing about in the most serious manner possible-- seeing anything in this fog seemed to count as 'bad,' if that... odd experience with Lavi had taught him anything. Mushu only got a glance to make sure the dragon was safely perched on a shoulder; Ping got a longer look, as if re-checking what he had already checked: if he was wounded.
The whole Weapon and Meister business... He owed a talk to Lavi. There would be a talk. Especially if carrying the boy around (though it wouldn't, he knew, with how resonation worked) got Ping in trouble.
