She could taste their fear in the air, the anguish and pain as she cut down a human that tried to attack her with a stick. The sudden change from Michigan to Death City, the frustration of having to run away with her two sisters, and the sudden lack of madness drove her to anger, and around her were helpless, easy prey. Shibusen's dogs would not be here, had been left several states away. She could deal as much damage as she wanted before making her escape.

She was there now, shrieking and laughing as she cut a swathe of people just outside the mall. Foolish things, to think they could find shelter from witches.

The alarm was enough to send Yuffie searching for the attackers. Without a Weapon she could only do so much, but standing by and watching was not an available option in her mind.

As she approached the mall, the ninja could already hear the people screaming and fleeing. Dark eyes narrowed and she pushed forward until the offender was in sight, and what a strange looking person it was! Without a Weapon she would be putting herself in danger, but she wasn't completely helpless. Avoiding a rush of escaping innocents, Yuffie knelt down to untie her boot then stood straight, raising her arm back before lobbing that boot at the attacking Witch. "Hey! Pick on somebody else!"

We can have someone (like Mifune) intervene when you give the signal! namelesswitch December 13 2010, 09:23:28 UTC
It was a lizard-type of witch, one of the many they would encounter in that world. She wasn't blind, however, and her reptilian, yellow eyes swiveled to look at Yuffie like they had a life of their own. Her mouth, permanently in a grin that reached her ears, bared to reveal matching rows of short, conical fangs. Her nose was flat on her face.

Her name was Mokula Newt, and she was not pleased at any human that dared defy her. "Shall I pick on you, then?" she snarled at the girl, the large, lizard tail lashing behind her in agitation.

There was no denying the shiver that chased itself down her spine once the thing looked her way, but Yuffie stood her ground with hands set firmly on her hips. Maybe just looking tough would be enough to quell the sudden impulse to find someplace to hide. "That's right! It might be more fun to deal with somebody who can fight back, right?" She shouted at the Witch, taking a menacing (she thought it was, at least) step forward.

"Or are you afraid a tiny thing like me will beat you?" Yuffie snickered, rubbing a thumb across her nose and lifting her chin.

There was something odd about Death City, she decided as she stuffed her hat under her cloak and hoped as she had never hoped before that she wasn't obviously foreign. The din of the alarm aside (it hurt her sensitive ears) and the smell of construction notwithstanding...

It was the lack of madness, wasn't it? That was probably it, she thought, nodding to herself anxiously, looking left and right at the half-empty street. The residents and the guests would be easy enough to dispatch, but the city still had some of its Shibusen representatives -- the undead, that samurai, and a deathscythe if she wasn't mistaken -- and her pains so far would be for naught if she died here.

She walked briskly down the street, trying her best not to be noticed in between the running residents around her. She had Soul Protect on, looked inconspicuous enough if not for the cloak, but she was hardpressed to get rid of it: her clothing underneath was even more eye-catching.

More alarms? The frequency of attacks in Death City was beginning to really set Chrome on edge. It certainly wasn't helped by the fact that somehow, the young girl always managed to be outside when they occurred. She started to move towards the direction of the apartment she currently shared and picked up the pace. Witches were frightening. The enemy in this war she'd found herself dragged into. Currently powerless, she did not want to run into one.

It had been unfortunate. She had been looking right when she'd walked quickly out of an alley, head lowered and her hair a curtain to hide her face, so that in the next two steps, she had run bodily into another, smaller something, rebounding with the force of her own inertia.

A quick look proved that it was a young girl, one with an eyepatch -- not the Deathscythe Marie, thank Babaa -- and it was almost impossible for the witch to reign in her temper.

"Watch where you step," she grumbled as she recomposed herself, quickly smoothing down the cloak over her garish and revealing clothing.

When the alarms had sounded, Rhode had been leaving the Heights to look around the mall. Looking around and finding no sand monsters, she'd been quite ready to head back to the apartment and try to wait out whatever was happening this time-- Until she remembered that Chrome had gone out.

It wasn't that she cared what happened to the girl, specifically; it was simply that if she did manage to get hurt, or killed, or something, certain people were likely to be very upset. Even with that justification, Rhode almost turned back and went home.

But if her Family were still here, and one of them happened to be in danger-- Walking in the direction Chrome had gone, Rhode sighed aloud, keeping an eye on her surroundings.

She would just check, Rhode told herself. If the girl met her on the way home, she could just turn back with her and act like it was an accident. If she didn't meet her, she was probably fine.

Rooftops and open air rushing past them in a blur, like lightning Black★Star and Tsubaki arced high above the streets, doggedly pursuing one of the Witches that had escaped them back at the mirror outside of Casualty Communal. There hadn't really been time to deliberate over which to follow, so naturally Black★Star picked the one that was running the fastest. Why? Because nobody showed up the Mighty Black★Star and lived to tell about it. And especially not those asshole Witches!

Of course, he couldn't be entirely sure that he was exactly on the thing's trail, he'd sort of more or less gone in the same general direction. But that's what his partner was for, right?

"OI, Tsubaki!" he called loudly and expectantly, "You have any idea where that bitch went?" His eyes narrowed with completely futile concentration as he peered below, trying to get an idea of where their target might be. His efforts were slightly more fervent now though - it hadn't occurred to him that the Witch might be running for any reason other than to escape from him ( ... )

Tsubaki followed behind her partner with light feet, despite their speed, as they jumped from rooftop to rooftop, chasing after the witch that seemed so desperate to reach the edges of the city. She had barely had time to try and locate the location of the witch before Black★Star had begun to sprint in its general direction, but she was working on pinpointing the witch's path while they ran. It was more difficult this way, but that was okay.

"Yes, just a moment," she replied, her voice calm as she focused more precisely, closing her eyes even as they hurried along. Tsubaki was listening for the distinct echo of the witch's soul wavelength, which would sound harsh and violent against the the surrounding environment.

Tsubaki's eyes opened a few moments later, before she gazed off to the right. "She's just ahead, down the street a few blocks and off to the right. Should we cut her off?"

[ooc: I'll throw the witch in after a tag or two once they get a little closer, k?]

It had seemed like a good idea to escape into Shibusen's transporting device when their dogs were biting at her and her sisters' tails, and she had yet to change her mind about it. Getting chased by children was far better than being chased by deathscythes, after all, although being in Shibusen's headquarters wasn't that much of an improvement. But sometimes she did wonder why some decades just refused to pick up. First, she'd nearly gotten killed by some of Shibusen's hunters in Greece, and then she'd gotten in this great witch conspiracy against Shibusen, and then they'd told her she had to serve a human. The last one was particularly galling, but having a timebomb in one's body did wonders to squash rebellion.

She should also stop thinking about such things when trying to make an escape. The witch -- Demyne was her name -- paused at an intersection as she tried to remember which way was to the edge of the city. She knew it was straight, but the road forked in an X and she didn't want to take to the rooftops where Shibusen's men ( ... )

"Hmm, not just yet," Black★Star mused thoughtfully, "I think we should circle and assess-"

Abruptly mid-sentence he grimaced and flashed Tsubaki and irritated look of Oh-my-God-I-can't-believe-you-just-asked-me-that-seriously? Rolling his eyes, he cleared his throat once and then, without pausing a further beat to so much as wait for his partner, he leaped away to a sharp right over to the next row of buildings, charged forward, and began to rapidly close the distance between him and the fleeing Witch. With a dexterity beyond that of any ordinary human, he sprang once more finally, sailing through the air and-

"YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"-BOOM!

With a resounding explosion, he slammed his fist into the ground immediately upon landing, sending a wave of debris to scatter in broad clusters everywhere and kick up a sizeable dust cloud. From within the concealment of said cloud, a voice called out grandiosely:

"Cower and feel regret! Today doom has come to you as you've foolishly strayed into my domain! Young or old, time has brought you to ( ... )
