The red-headed woman in her arms seemed to be both crying and going insane. This was an interesting reaction, especially since she still did not plead to be release, though Mara could tell the woman most certainly did not want to be here. Well, too damn bad. If she wanted to be free, then someone needed to pay her debt off and that was that ( ... )

The other flier lighted on a roof and turned, nonagressive, inviting a civil conversation. Ares, having had time while flying to think over what a stupid thing she was doing, flying into an unknown situation, decided to take them up on the offer. She fluttered to break her speed and came down on the roof a few yards from the other woman, who, now that she got a look at her, was very destinctly demonic. Ares wasn't sure if that should please or worry her ( ... )

Leirian was curious, but too responsible to leave his immediate duties to investigate, as Mara landed on the roof, still holding the not entirely responsive redheaded woman, and turned to address the winged woman. But he had gotten a better look at them as they drew closer, and he recognized the redhead from the pictures in the Journals. Ana, she had been called by the blond man with horns.

Either Mara had stolen her, or the woman was a price for some kind of service, he decided. He highly doubted that anyone would voluntarily ask Psyche for transportation somewhere, especially since it would incur some cost. And gifting a woman to pay off a debt was not unheard of.

He did hope Mara would tell him the story. Whether they were all three of them staying or not, it would not be a bad idea to have more food available, so he fetched another two rats for cleaning.

In the quiet of the apartment Niji relaxed for a little. Holding her meditation defenses firm was second nature for court, but she was not as accustomed to holding them during quite such strenuous activities, especially at the level she was now. Of course, Kororen may have it right. This is a new place. It matters little what they discover about me if I am returned to my old life. But we do not know how long we will be here. And there are some insights to my character I would prefer to keep to myself.

She smiled at that. At least for now, I seem to have found companions that do not grate. They are practical and efficient, deadly as needed, and yet open to my suggestions so far. They may be gaijin, but it seems that is so with everyone here. Kororen understands proper etiquette at least.

She pulled a rack out of the odd hinged door she found. It must be the oven that Ghost was referring to. And then there is Ghost. He is a fine physical specimen, no denying that, if much too tall. He obviously has power, if he can stand up to Mara ( ... )

Ghost had fairly good luck in his venture to search for supplies, to say the least. Spices, condiments in sealed jars and bottles, several pieces of spare wood for the fire, a drawer full of kitchen knives and utensils. And, perhaps best of all, a large, plastic sack of good old fashioned salt and a bunch of mason jars ( ... )
