Wow, season two sounds fascinating! I can't get it here in the resort and have the series on pre order. Soooo looking forward to when it's released here in the US.
When John was reading the papers and getting a tad upset, he said something along the lines of the papers were referring to him as a "confirmed bachelor" living with Sherlock. I took it to mean that he's reading between the lines that the press think he and Sherlock are a couple and that's why he wanted Sherlock to not get a lot of press for awhile.
Maybe they did look for him at Bart's, but I would think Sherlock would have lots of hiding places ready to pop into if needed.
I was wondering about the medical crew who came to take care of Sherlock. There was an awful lot of them and they came over really fast, and none of them were letting John get anywhere near Sherlock's (well, we know his death was faked) body. I wondered if Sherlock had set up something with his street people pals to spirit him away and to distract John. John was runover by that guy on the bike, after all.
On another note, I feel very touched by the "I Believe In Sherlock" movement.

I don't think so - people have been thinking that he and Sherlock are a couple since ep 1; he's gotten pretty used to it, I think. There's something more to it than that... I think he's worried about Sherlock for some reason. Later Sherlock asks him why he cares and he says he doesn't want people to think of Sherlock as a fraud.

I wanna see it again so I can revisit some of the scenes and take in the nuances more. But I agree that confirmed bachelor really tweaked John, and I also think there's a difference between being in the paper or getting some fanmail and having the kind of celeb status where people make up stories about you, dig up dirt on you, and keep you from being able to get out your front door. It takes on a kind of rabid quality

Hey, any time... just let me know. :-) Maybe if the game gets really boring tomorrow. And I guess that makes sense; that maybe the fame has gotten a bit out of hand. It's not just interesting cases now, it's photographers everywhere they go and paparazzi and people hounding them. It just seems a bit incongruous to me.
S and M have the conversation before Sherlock has to die, true, but after it's starting to look like his reputation is gone, that no one will ever believe him again when he's sure he's right about something. He may not be dead, but it's looking like his LIFE is over.Actually, his reputation is
( ... )
I don't think Sherlock disbelieves himself here; Baskerville showed us what he looks like when he doesn't think he can trust his own perceptions of reality -- it freaking terrifies him. He's not terrified here.
I see what you mean about the timing of the discussion with Molly. Shoot! So clearly I need to watch it again, with an eye towards figuring out what Sherlock knows or suspects at that point. It's a terrible sacrifice, but I guess I'll have to make it. :) Wanna make it with me?
1. But would Sherlock just accept that? Wouldn't he try and do something to get out of it or prevent it or outsmart Moriarty? What seems so strange to me is that Sherlock seems resigned to it at this point, like there's nothing he can do about it. That just doesn't seem like him
( ... )
1. He would accept that, yes, because it's not boring anymore.. but that doesn't say he's just going to die. He's far too fond of himself to just lie down and die. *g* And I don't see him as resigned at all, I see him with an idea to outsmart Moriarty, but he's going to hurt everyone he loves doing it. He might not have a big heart, but a small one at least
( ... )
3. I also think that Sherlock somehow wants John to understand what he's going to have to do.. he doesn't want to be alone with all the information he has.. he wants to share it with John.. but he can't because he has to protect John no matter what, that's Sherlock's gift to John, his friendship.. to protect John from what Sherlock thinks is his responsibility.
John: "No, I know you for real." Sherlock knows this.. they know each other.. and how do you protect the only loyal friend (maybe more, because there's a lot of love between them in one way or another) from harm? How do you tell this person everything will be alright, but not saying it? *sniff*
1. Molly and Sherlock have the conversation about "you look at John like my dad did when he was dying when he thought no one was looking" in the lab at Bart's when they're analyzing the footprints. But this is way before Moriarty has revealed his endgame. So then why does Sherlock look like this?
I thought that being a supergenius, Sherlock figured out as far back as the pool that Moriarty was going to take him down. And the endgame kicked off with the Crown Jewels heist. So when Molly and Sherlock are talking in the lab, Sherlock mightn't have had the Plan B for the fall exactly figured out, but he knew he was going to need a Plan B and that that would involve Sherlock's death, or at best either leaving John or dying or the end of his relationship with John. Molly saw that look on his face and knew she was looking at a man whose end was nigh, IMO.
2. Why is John upset about the media coverage? In episode three, he's embarrassed at being called a confirmed bachelor because it sounds like he will never have another romantic
( ... )
1. That makes sense, but do you think Sherlock would just accept that? Wouldn't he try to outsmart or out-trick Moriarty? I find it a little hard to believe that he'd just think, "oh, he's going to get me" and not try to do anything about it. Although maybe he is and he just realizes that that's going to mean that he has to make John think he's dead.
4. Fishguard is a ferry port in London? Maybe that is a clue!

I don't think he just accepted it. One can see the end coming and still hope, still plan, still try to win. He was definitely trying to outwit Moriarty right to the end, IMHO. But in the final analysis, Moriarty had more leverage, fewer principles, and a large number of snipers. :)
Due to the fact that Sherlock is not a murderer, the playing field between him and Moriarty is not a level one.

It's a ferry port on the coast of Wales. One of the main routes to Ireland.
