Today was our second sailing class. It was actually the third class, but we missed last week to go to my reunion. I've always sort of viewed Objectivism unfavorably. Mostly because objectivists themselves are kind of annoying to talk to. The entire movement, supposedly based on objective reason, has a strong tendency to reclassify it's cherished but unsupportable believes as 'axioms.' However I'd never really taken them time to look at it seriously.

One statistic I've heard repeated a lot recently, usually in support of a statement like 'capitalism has failed' is that median household income in America has been pretty much flat over the last decade. Health Care Reform
I think it can pretty much be assumed that the current push for health care reform will fail. We might get a couple token bills out of the deal, but I'm pretty sure nothing substantive will change. I think principles should be able to fire teachers whenever the fuck they feel like it. My boss can fire me whenever the hell he wants. Yes he would need to avoid the appearance of racism, sexism or discrimination against any other protected class, but since I'm a young white male with near (obvious) disabilities, he'd probably be in the clear ( Read more... ) -
New couch and other stuff
Theresa and got our new couch yesterday! We're pretty excited about it (don't laugh). It's a bit larger than our old couch and has a chase attached. It's also extremely comfortable and could probably sleep two in a pinch. Our old couch is currently sitting in the back house. It's as if some groups are desperate to see California go bankrupt. The new method of choice is apparently suing to reverse painful but necessary budget cuts.The fact that they are winning the lawsuits I think proves that our budgeting process is un-workably rigid.
