Who: Hawke and YOU. What: BOARD GAMES!? When: December 7th-10th, afternoons. Where: THE BIGGEST, MOST PUBLIC COMMON ROOM WITH ALL THE BOARD GAMES. Warnings: Candyland, probably.
A WILD ORANGE ARMY CO APPEARS!mecha_orangeDecember 8 2010, 01:43:53 UTC
Lo and behold, trouble at hand. It seems that Andy has somehow found his way across the maze of school and dorms to find this very same room. There was an odd perkiness to Andy, as of usual, but perhaps a little more than just that.
"HEEEEEEEEEEY HAWKE! Long time no see! How is it going?" Andy sneered, as usual. "I wonder whats with the long face, But its nice for you to come out into the social... How is Lash doing?".
Any chance of a well-spent afternoon might have been ruined over this. Sit down, have a decaf and for god's sake... Do not talk about Lash.
Hawke's favorite person in the whole entire world. When Andy entered the room, his exasperation was nearly audible.
He perhaps would have been a little more keen to tolerate Andy if he wasn't in such a crummy mood to begin with. As it was, he placed his cards on the table and leaned back in his chair, sighing.
"Lash has taken a short leave." A lie, of course. He had no idea how long she'd be gone.
Andy fell for it... Well, he would had if he wasnt there to ask specific questions of the specific kind.
"When did she left? A couple days ago we had a nice big group chat... Lots of people, including you. As far as I know, she was kept in your kitchen making sandwiches and you aparently enjoyed a naked stroll around..."
Andy smugged, he knew that Hawke had to be lying... Or at least he was. Who knows, he liked card games as well.
"Whatcha playing anyways... It seems like an awful lot of room for someone so lonely as you"
He perked a bit at the mention of a "nice big group chat", and subsequent ridiculous statements about kitchens and sandwiches and naked strolls. "I have no idea what you're talking about." Hawke replied quite honestly, because he really didn't know what Andy was talking about. "Lash left about a week ago."
The size of the room was of no consequence to him, in fact, he liked the openness and the way the cold December sun filtered through the windows. "Solitare." He answered simply.
A small, almost nonfunctional tail flicked behind the visitor, cautiously approaching this man as she examined his current activity. Compared to the standard expectation for what was human, she was slightly alien in appearance: Her body was thin, her skin was pale with an almost purple blush to it and her hair had all the suggestions of a shimmering, deep lavender. Some pointed compromise between human and animal ears poked out of that soft, fluffy hair. Her eyes were full, an even deeper purple.
She had socks on her hands. Her clothes were mismatched with no sense of style in sight, topped off with a sweater tied across her shoulders like a puffy cape.
Hawke was, by a general rule, rather cognizant of his surroundings, so even though he was engrossed in his (very exciting) game of solitare, it didn't take him long to realize he was not alone.
He was used to strange appearances in this academy, but this girl took him a bit by surprise, mostly because he'd never seen her before. The way she stared at him was frankly, unsettling, and he cocked an eyebrow in her direction, waiting several long moments to see if she would speak.
When it became clear she wasn't going to do that, however, Hawke ventured a greeting of his own. "...Hello."
This new girl nodded quickly without a word. Her human form dulled her psychic abilities consideringly, almost too much for her comforts, but she was determined to see things on the other side for her own experiences. Her team mates were frequently human, and at times, the venture... piqued her curiousity.
(Still, humans were forever too clumsy. With the exception of Marie, she could empathize with her larger companions. Sonny and Kojiro in particular.)
Following a social pattern more suiting of Espeons than humans, she might have slipped too close to Hawke give his game of Chess an even closer look. She made motions to reach for a piece to pick up and examine.
Well, whoever this girl was, she was certainly curious. Hawke studied her for a moment as she studied the pieces scattered across the table, wondering exactly why she was choosing to remain silent. She wasn't human, that much was obvious, and if she didn't want to talk, that was fine by him--the CO wasn't terribly talkative either, and often found conversation to be uncomfortable and strained.
She seemed extremely interested in what he was doing, however, and one couldn't very well play chess by oneself. He handed her a bishop to look at and moved the board to a more accessible location for the both of them. "Would you like to play?"
This will be thrilling.notsotoxicDecember 8 2010, 01:52:51 UTC
Vianca was, as Vianca often did, reading a book. She just so happened to be doing it in one of the common rooms this time. The very one that Hawke had taken residence in, in fact. Right across from him even! How that had happened was an eternal mystery of plot device.
She of course realized that she was not alone, occasionally looking over her book to watch him make a play with his stunningly exciting game of solitaire.
She glanced up again to see if Hawke had perhaps noticed this strange invisible force that was turning her page. Vianca turned it again, curious this time.
He was still not done with it, The thrilling conclusion to the page was near but still not quite at his grasp.
Perhaps if you where a little more attentive, you would had seen a hand turning the page again. But I really doubt it since Gideon was pretty careful when he didn't wanted to disturb other people and their books.
Cyrus hadn't given much thought to strategy lately. With his plans taking a new direction, the necessity of planning ahead had lessened. But his Red Chain machine would take only a few more months to construct, so he needed to be prepared for any and all eventualities.
To hone his mind again to sufficiently plan ahead, he headed for the games room, hoping to find a worthy challenge to match wits against.
"...that strategy must mimic warfare...it is a disgusting state of affairs," he muttered as he counted up the pieces of a chess set.
Truth be told, Hawke had seen Cyrus' recent post on the network and chosen to ignore it. Though he certainly had quite a bit to say about war and warfare, he knew of the man's distaste for it, and hadn't felt like engaging in an intellectual argument of that nature.
But now it seemed like that would be unavoidable, as Cyrus' first comment was one that reflected his most current entry.
"I take it you don't like chess." Hawke quipped, drawing an ace and placing it in the upper right of his solitaire game.
"As a game, it is a worthy tool to inspire forward thinking. However, one cannot lose the fact that it represents a battlefield." This was spoken without turning around. "As such, I am reluctutant to partake."
Hawke quite enjoyed chess, and never really thought of it as a war game, just a diversion that helped keep his mind sharp. One couldn't allow oneself to become rusty, after all. He put aside the cards for the moment and began setting up the chess board.
"It's pieces on a board. A stimulating strategy game. You're not supporting war by playing chess."
As Hawke was once again alone in the common room, a figure was sneaking. First appearing behind a few chairs that didn't seem to be able to hold evne her small frame, then suddenly behind the couch, and then behind him for a second, and then behind another couch, Bob almost seemed to appear behind everything as she finally rose from the chair opposite Hawke's game and stared at the solitaire game. She was holding a game in her hands.
"Hello! Would you like to play with me?"
Weirdly enough, the central radio system seemed to be playing a fitting song.
Hawke's childhood was certainly not full of playing Candy Land, that was for sure. And he certainly wasn't going to start now, not with so many other, better games like Risk and Stratego and Mastermind around.

He put down the cards and folded his arms. "That is a game for children."

And he tough of what Hawke would say if he knew that he had his Pokemon Card Game in his dorm room.
"Hawke, what was your childhood like? Think of that and think that maybe this could be a second chance..."
Looking around, there where many other games... Oh! There was a good one.
"How about APPLES TO APPLES, Hawke? You like word games apparently"
Reply
"No." Was his very simple answer.
