I've only posted 4 times in the past two years...whoa. It's interesting to read the random snapshots of my life from the times I did decide to record something. Having a journal is so interesting... there are so many thoughts you forget about if you don't record them. It's so easy to look at old pictures to remember things, but old journal ( Read more... )

yeah, isn't finding a balance (at least, in your mind, since we aren't really there in the future doing our jobs yet) between science and "hard stuff" and more hands-on, service-oriented stuff hard?? i feel like, for both of us, doing harder science WOULD be a service to humanity/the Earth, since we're interested in stuff like ecological research and nutritional research. both of which are really important, they just don't necessarily feel like they are making a difference as directly. the positive results aren't as tangible. it's like the different between collecting signatures for PowerVote and actually starting a composting program. or something like that ( ... )

Noah and I are going to Ithaca on Monday! I'm at his house in NY right now. What did you do while you were there? :-)

*hugs*

Cool! We were there as a family, and we visited my parents' old friends (they lived there until my mom was pregnant with me). It's such a great little town--I think St. Mary's would have a town just like it, if we had a college town. We didn't spend a lot of time in the actual town... we took walks around the area and on the Cornell Plantations and hung out at the huge house my parents' friends were house-sitting. But when we were in the town, we went to an awesome used bookstore and some cool craft shops. There's also Moosewood Restaurant, which is a pretty famous vegetarian cafe. We didn't go this time, but we've been before.
Have fun!!! *hugs back* :)

EEE the essential life questions! It's so scary yet so fulfilling and exciting at the same time! I think you may be on to something with the schools and just combining so many things you love. And you can of course make money and make a difference. That's the joy of finding something you really love, even if it's something that doens't make a lot of money (like teaching, ha, what i'm doing). But whatever fulfills you, because you're the type of person who needs that sense of fulfillment because you're sensitive and kind.
If you ever need to talk about it, I'd love to!!
I love you and would love to see you soon.

Yay! I love when you post! I rarely get to hear what the gears moving in your head are saying... lol. I LOVE the cook book quote, and thats possibly the coolest cook book you could ever find. We must cook from that book!
I think that making a difference and a living at the same time is very possible, and I most definately know that you are capable. Food therapy is the best idea ever, and I totally already use it... ahah! I'm glad that you're thinking out your options, I know what it's like to just say what you want to do, and assume it will fit together some how. We should start a bakery/bistro... I can do all of the designing and advertising, you can do the paper work and science and we can do the menu together! What fun! :D MISS YOU ALREADY!! When do you go back to St.M's? Cuz we're comming back the weekend of inauguration! Maybe we can do something then, if it's not too late?!

I'm sad you left...:( Come back and we'll open a bakery at the train station, haha :)
I have to work on the 17th, so I'm probably going back to school on the 16th, probably the same day you're coming here. Sadddd

god! That was the day we're comming back! ugh. Well, we're moving back in like... 3 years or so, so we could still do the bakery! Alot of people would eat there! But we'd have to bolt everything to the shelves and walls... so the shaking doesnt demolish the shop everytime a train goes by... lol <3 (but im obviously gonna see you before that... ahah) I know what you can do for that semester break... *points to my house*... :D
