[In the park today, a sleeping puppy in his lap, Light looks peaceful, hair lifted by a light breeze. He's out here to get away from everything going on at the house, and the peace and quiet has let him think. The sunshine coming in through the leafy canopy that shades him casts his face in mottled light and shadow, and makes his vermillion shirt ( Read more... )

A brilliant move.

Say it again, won't you?

I had a choice. Let them all find out by listening in on a conversation, or from people speaking to each other behind closed doors, or admit to it myself.

No more lies, isn't that what you wanted?

I'm just questioning the sentiment behind this, that's all -- oh, and I'm not sure if admitting to your identity without displaying any kind of regret will make a big and lasting impression. You're just saying you will continue on as before under a different name. Wonderful.

Very few people here know there's anything to regret. I'm more concerned about Edgeworth's reaction, considering Kira admitted to being responsible for a murder--however, he knows as well as I do that a confession by no means makes someone a killer.

It's a great risk. Don't pretend I do this just out of self-interest, Boss.

I suppose, I shouldn't comment on things I have little- [ tiny pause. correcting self: ] no understanding of. However, I think, to go about it like that is a respectable decision.

Thank you. I can't be sure until the people who are really affected by this have heard it, how the reaction will be, but I thank you for the sentiment none the less.

Do you have a name? I don't think we've met before.

A "warrior for the future." Well - since you talked about nothing but the past, truly, do share. What is your grand vision?

My 'grand vision' is very much the same as yours, Edgeworth. The end of the corruption and injustice that possess this city, and a disbalancing of the foothold of mere companies in things that do not concern them.

And do share how you'll enact it.

By being outspoken and confident, of course. Not by violence or attack, but in the same way as you would do it, Edgeworth. I will become a voice that they cannot help but listen to.

[ Having been questioned on shinigami's means of doling out death (a notebook, really? how curious) and now to be faced with Light's effusive speech on the importance of names, following their last conversation, they lack the powers - and so do you ... ]

Before Love, when spoken.

[ It's not a lie; his name can mean that, and he's certainly not literally spelling it out to what apparently amounts to a vicious thief of shinigami practices, albeit from another world. This Kira certainly hasn't behaved in the past, piling up excuses of justice only to dispell them now.

Aizen doesn't care if Light's murdered a million souls, but he's interested in whether guilt is what prompted this confession. ]

[Ah, there -- that cultured voice again. The man who leaked charisma all over the network just a few days ago.]

It would be difficult to mistranslate your name.

Are you settling in well?

There are several meanings that can construe the kanji itself.

[ There you go, Light, a bone. Chew on it with a notepad and pen if you want to try and get Aizen's name right. ]

I'm of a mind to apply at the library for a position in the coming week. The city is vast and varied culturally, even among natives, and there are many willing to help a newcomer. Similarly, there are those who continually provide inadvertent reassurances over the network, simply by being themselves.

[ Edgeworth really does talk too much, doesn't he? That last endeavour, coaxing as many people out of the woodwork as possible, was nothing more than a silver platter. People were paying attention. ]

A cathartic afternoon for you, Light-kun?

Usually we can choose the meaning ourselves, when we're old enough to do so. The moon, God of the Night, reflecting the light of the sun to illuminate the darkness of the earth below, waxing and waning but eternal and ethereal--untouchable. I have great affection for my name, as you can imagine. It's why I was so amused by the name of your sword; the moon's reflection in a pool.

I'm sure those reassurances are often quite deliberate. [He can guess who you're talking about, but the meaning of the sentence is very obtuse, so he doesn't say so outright.]

I have a lot to think about lately, as you can imagine. I recently returned from the dead, and it gives you plenty to ruminate over.

It's a difficult question. I'm sorry for lying to everyone here, but what I did at home...I can't apologise for that. It is what it is.
