I thought-- [Here Kirk’s voice becomes a bit muted, as though he’s turned away from his communicator. The greeters are attempting to get his attention, but the Starfleet captain is having none of that.] Hey, listen, sorry about the disturbance

The 21st century leaves plenty to be desired from a mid-23rd century viewpoint. I'm probably S.O.L. on a food synthesizer, huh?

Of course it does. But from a lot of people's views, the mid twenty-third century might leave a lot to be desired.

[ and he shakes his head. ]

No food synthesisers. Unless you count microwaves. Actually, I might just count microwaves. Depending on what you use them for.

Really, now? How so? [His voice isn't challenging; he's genuinely curious regarding the matter.]

...Well, considering I can't cook worth shit, I'm open to any pseudo-synthesizer tips you might have.

Sorry, but are you trying to talk to somebody on a spaceship?

[ There's more curiosity in her voice than anything; it'll be nice to talk space travel without looking like a nutter. ]

Several somebodies, actually. Doesn't seem like I'm gonna be getting an answer any time soon, though. [He doesn't seem too worried about that just yet, though.]

Unfortunately not. You could say I'm missing my own spaceship. [ a beat. errr, long story. ] Kind of.

But you're probably from the future, am I right? I haven't heard about the Enterprise before.

Heyyy, another space explorer, are you? Was starting to think I was the only one. [Kirk's beaming at that information.] The U.S.S. Enterprise is the Federation's finest. She was completed in twenty-two fifty-eight, which is when I'm from. Now.. do I get to ask when you're from? [There's a playful twinkle in his eyes.]

I rather doubt you'll get a decent answer of them.

You mean my crew or the ones that herded me inside? Those greeters were only a little more helpful than the silence of my officers.

Either. We've yet to see evidence that other worlds can hear what goes on here.

Considering I'm about two and a half centuries in the past, I don't think I'll hold my breath waiting for an answer from my timeframe.

They didn't give me too much of a choice in that. For having a lot to say, not too much of it was actually useful.

You sound really pissed at someone for something that isn't their fault, hey.

Yeah, yeah, I've gotten corrected on that. But in my defense, I wouldn't put it passed Scotty to have a wee li'l sip before his shift. [Part of that slips out in Kirk's imitation of a Scottish accent. He chuckles a bit.] If Scotty shows up and gets all offended at my accusation, I can always wiggle back into his good graces by getting him a drink or two.

A Scotsman. My ship's chief engineer, so it's his job to make sure what I thought happened doesn't happen. Likes his drinks. [A pause.] And sandwiches.
