Kirk to Enterprise, or more specifically, Kirk to Mister Scott. Mind telling me what the hell went wrong? I thought-- [Here Kirk’s voice becomes a bit muted, as though he’s turned away from his communicator. The greeters are attempting to get his attention, but the Starfleet captain is having none of that.] Hey, listen, sorry about the disturbance ( Read more... )

[Have a Chinese girl sewing something in her hands. She glances up at the feed and just blinks]

Well, welcome to Alternate Dimension Canada.

[It only takes a bit of fiddling for Kirk to figure out how to access the network from his NV, and-- Well hellooo, attractive woman. A few more button presses and his device helpfully informs him that he's now in video mode. The young woman is graced with a smile; Kirk seems more at ease now after having most of the basics explained to him.]

I've dabbled in alternate timelines before, so an alternate dimension isn't too much of a mind-boggle for me. Better Canada than Iowa, at least.

[Jubilee is too busy sewing. Sorry, Captain.]

Well, considering I've been through Iowa, I can't say much. Though I would prefer to go home. I'm Jubilee.

[S'alright; that just lets him admire a woman that's good with her hands without her noticing that he's watching.]

There are a few good hot spots, but really, not a whole lot more if you ask me. I'm Jim Kirk. You got a last name, Jubilee?

As Jubilee has already indicated, you aren't in the same universe you were before appearing in the field. If you're returned to your universe, all indications are that you're returned to the time and place you were taken from.

I see the Greeters are trying to talk to you. Hopefully they're going to get you inside before nightfall; the monsters here are very real. [Says someone who's only just started going out after Sirens.]

[Jim makes some mental notes; one, the Asian-looking woman is apparently called Jubilee. Always good to have names on hand. Two, it seems as though the responses he receives aren't available to just him for viewing.]

Same time and place? Now that's handy, isn't it. And don't fret on my behalf, I've already gotten unceremoniously ushered indoors with a warning about venturing late at night being a big no-no. [Indeed, his surroundings in the video feed are the plain walls of the tower apartments. His NV is set on a table, which Kirk leans his elbows upon as he laces his fingers together.]

Now, I can't help but notice that you said if I'm returned. Care to explain that a bit?

Nobody's found a way to return home on their own. Some people vanish, apparently sent home. Sometimes they return. Invariably, if they return with memories of having been here before, they say that they were deposited back exactly when and where they left. Similarly invariably, when acquaintances are kidnapped here from the same universe at different times, the ones from farther in the future have never noticed any of the others being inexplicably missing in their past.

I'm Emma Frost, I've been here for a few weeks now.

Jim Kirk.

And I may be pretty open to time and space traveling phenomena, but those are some pretty unbelievable claims there. Tell me, Emma. Are there any leads on how to get out of here other than being mysteriously whisked away?

An alien planet?

[...Well, that hologram's pretty damn nifty. Kirk can't suppress a grin.]

Yeah, alien. This is.. what, the 21st century, right? You can't tell me people don't believe in life on other planets yet.

They don't, actually. [Blank. Simple.] I'm one of the few exceptions you'll find here.

They..... don't. [His voice is flat, disbelieving.] You mean that after all these technological advances and knowing something about the vastness of the galaxy, let alone the universe, and having actually been in space, humans still don't believe in extraterrestrials in this timeframe.

Um...are you trying to talk to a friend? They're probably not here.

Yeah, a few friends, actually. [He grimaces a little since he's only on voice function.] I sorta gathered that they aren't around. Or who knows, maybe they are and they're just too outta sorts to get back to me.

I don't suppose it's common for people that know one another to show up..?

It's not uncommon. Not all the newcomers know someone from home, but quite a few do. I do...at least one person.

So either I've got some pals waiting for me that I haven't found, or I'm the first to explore this alternate dimension. ...I dunno, sounds pretty win/win to me.

Jack. Not Scotty. And I'm guessin' you've figured out you ain't where you're supposed to be.

[voice] endowedcaptain September 20 2011, 02:57:05 UTC
Considering you're lacking the heavy Scottish accent, I think you'd have a harder time trying to convince me you were Scotty. And trust me, it wasn't hard to figure out that where I was supposed to be and where I ended up weren't one and the same.

Yeah, good job. So somebody tell you yet, or you want all the stupid details?

Hey, if you're willin' to give me all the stupid details, how could I say no? [Details are fantastic to have, after all.]
