Kirk to Enterprise, or more specifically, Kirk to Mister Scott. Mind telling me what the hell went wrong? I thought-- [Here Kirk’s voice becomes a bit muted, as though he’s turned away from his communicator. The greeters are attempting to get his attention, but the Starfleet captain is having none of that.] Hey, listen, sorry about the disturbance ( Read more... )

As Jubilee has already indicated, you aren't in the same universe you were before appearing in the field. If you're returned to your universe, all indications are that you're returned to the time and place you were taken from.

I see the Greeters are trying to talk to you. Hopefully they're going to get you inside before nightfall; the monsters here are very real. [Says someone who's only just started going out after Sirens.]

[Jim makes some mental notes; one, the Asian-looking woman is apparently called Jubilee. Always good to have names on hand. Two, it seems as though the responses he receives aren't available to just him for viewing.]

Same time and place? Now that's handy, isn't it. And don't fret on my behalf, I've already gotten unceremoniously ushered indoors with a warning about venturing late at night being a big no-no. [Indeed, his surroundings in the video feed are the plain walls of the tower apartments. His NV is set on a table, which Kirk leans his elbows upon as he laces his fingers together.]

Now, I can't help but notice that you said if I'm returned. Care to explain that a bit?

Nobody's found a way to return home on their own. Some people vanish, apparently sent home. Sometimes they return. Invariably, if they return with memories of having been here before, they say that they were deposited back exactly when and where they left. Similarly invariably, when acquaintances are kidnapped here from the same universe at different times, the ones from farther in the future have never noticed any of the others being inexplicably missing in their past.

I'm Emma Frost, I've been here for a few weeks now.

Jim Kirk.

And I may be pretty open to time and space traveling phenomena, but those are some pretty unbelievable claims there. Tell me, Emma. Are there any leads on how to get out of here other than being mysteriously whisked away?

No; if anyone knows how to get home, they're keeping that information to themselves.

That'd make them a pretty stingy bastard, wouldn't it.

Now hey, Emma. You mentioned something about the "monsters" here. I've heard them mentioned a few times, but nobody's actually gone and described them for me. What they look like, what they do, why they only come out at night. Got any answers for a questioning mind?

I've only just started going out after Siren's myself. There are quite a variety, and it's not just the monsters, it's ... the laws of reality changing a little in unprotected places, so that things acquire a coat of rust while you watch -- and then get better at dawn.

More usefully, here is the standard reference guide.

Bravery, hm? I like that in a woman.

[It takes him a brief moment to access the guide, and after that his eyes are flicking side to side as he reads, almost completely absorbed in the writing. He lets out a low whistle.] So people weren't kidding about it being a good idea to stay inside.

[An amused look at the first, but no comment, then she freezes her end of the feed while he reads. Her response comes several seconds after he replies, after unfreezing the feed.]

No, not at all. If you're combat-experienced and armed, any one trip probably won't involve more than shooting a couple of things. Assuming you see them first. Assuming you know your route. Assuming you don't run into anything too nasty along your route.

[She shrugs.] I stayed indoors after Sirens for several weeks.

[Damn, no reaction to his charms.]

Armed and combat-experienced I am, though the rest of those conditions are significantly more questionable. [A wry grin.] Guess I better start learning the terrain if I want to up my odds of survival.

[The only visible reaction to his charm was amusement.]

There is always the option of simply staying indoors after Sirens. It's what most people do if they possibly can. And frankly it's the prudent thing to do. For my part, imprisoned to the island is bad enough, I don't want to be imprisoned to the day with the days growing shorter. [She shrugs.] While I normally try to avoid trouble, it's not as though I haven't been forced to deal with worse on occasion.

Sure sounds like staying inside's the best option. I'll try stickin' to your advice, but I've unfortunately got this damnable natural curiosity about things. Can't promise I'll always be a good boy.

As I said, I've started going out after Sirens myself, so I don't take my own advice. I acknowledge that staying indoors after Sirens is the sensible thing to do; however, avoiding going stir-crazy is sometimes worth the risk of an outing to me.

Yeah, I can totally get that. Just.. Well, this is probably advice you don't need, but be careful. Wouldn't want anything happening to that gorgeous face of yours, would we?

Emma traces a cheekbone and gives a throaty laugh. "Don't worry, James. I take very good care of my body whenever possible. It merely isn't always possible. You take care of yourself if you can; contrary to report, ladies are not impressed by scars, only - sometimes - the stories behind them."

[Oh, he likes that laugh.]

Me, not taking care of myself? I'd never be reckless enough to knowingly put myself in danger. [LIES.] Though I do have a few scars. If you're ever interested, I wouldn't mind baring a little skin to show them to you. [Wink~]
