Cabin In The Woods

All right. There is no way (and I mean this--NO. WAY.) to review this movie without spoiling it for anyone who wants to go see it. I'm talking spoilers BEFORE THE TITLE of the movie type of spoilers, things I cannot even mention except to say that I love the way Joss Whedon writes dialogue (and Drew Goddard, who also wrote the film, and directed it ( Read more... )

The portions of food and drink given in theaters has always really confused me, too. I can only assume it's so they can charge more for everything on the menu. Or they want us all to get extra fat so we can't get out of our theater seats, and our only choice is to buy more tickets and stick around.

/conspiracy!

(also, amusing side note: at both the time when I was huffing and puffing from the "exercise" and at the most frightening parts of the movie, C Monkey was punching up a storm in my belly).

I'm now imagining a wee little fetus shouting "UNCOMFORTABLE! SCARY! DO NOT WANT! D=" and punching furiously. xD

I personally think it's just one of those weird things in America--you know, the way that Starbucks has introduced a new EVEN BIGGER SIZE cup. I mean, right now, I need them to downsize their current smallest cup so I can have a decaf coffee every now and then. Luckily, I have approximately 90 other options for coffee shops here beyond Starbucks. But, that's not true everywhere ( ... )

We do seem to have a cycle of sorts, of "BIGGER! BIGGER PORTIONS! MORE!" for a few years, then we realize how huge the portions have become and have a period of shrinking them down... and then it starts all over again. Or at least that's how it seems to me. o_O

I swear, this is why 90% of pregnant women have a dream/nightmare at some point about the baby tearing through the uterus all demon baby style--you just have to wonder if that's what's happening inside, and only the 7 layers of protection is keeping that baby from accomplishing its goal. O_O

I imagine watching the Alien series is a big no-no while pregnant, then? xD

I so want to see CITW, but I don't know if I will anytime soon. My family and I have never been Theater People(I've been twice in the past 15 years D=), and we tend not to buy DVD's that often. But I think I'll make an effort to snag it when it does come out on DVD. THE MIGHT OF WHEDON DEMANDS IT.

I feel like things have only gotten bigger, with the illusion of things occasionally getting "smaller" by returning to an earlier version of the first upgrade. Realizing that the kids size fries used to be the small of McDonald's, for instance, should tell you everything you need to know about size problems.

Alien is so well known, you don't even HAVE to see it to know about it. Plus, I grew up in the 90s. Of course I've already seen it.

You really should at the least think about seeing it in theaters, but definitely get it on DVD regardless. Showing interest and support is the only way to keep Mutant Enemy productions in business providing us with quality entertainment.

Plus, you know, afterwards you'll never be able to look at unicorns the same way again.

Seriously. You will never look at horror films the same way.

Personally, I've been sleeping fine (at least no really horrifying nightmares--I've been having trouble getting and staying comfortable). This is mostly because pregnant women are only essential for Zombie Movies, and we always survive. So, I'm safe until at least August.

Haha, Cabin in the Woods is a horror comedy, fyi ;) There are several others like it (Drag me to Hell is a great example), so it's really only supposed to be a CERTAIN level of scary, which allows for the fearful types to view. :DDD

Cabin in the Woods is only a horror comedy in the sense that there may or may not be several movies inside that movie. Have you seen it yet? (YET YET YET?!? =DDDDDD)

Also, in my opinion, Drag Me To Hell is a terrible film. D=

Not yet, but soon! I would have this weekend if I wasn't dying in bed D: Pat and our friend Nick's sister's husband Ross went without us. Pat's like Mega Expert on Movie Types and that's what he told us (and I looked up on Wiki anyway to be sure).

Also, I didn't really like Drag Me to Hell either, but if I wasn't told it was a horror comedy, I would have hated it even more because I thought it was being serious.

Yeah, I still feel like calling it a Horror/Comedy is going to give a lot of people the wrong sense of it. The same way calling Firefly a "sci fi western" really gives no sense of the truly fascinating, amusing, and original series that it was. I mean, even asigning labels like "cartoon/anime" to something like ATLA or LoK can create false impressions of what the content actually is. One of the reasons The Princess Bride failed in movie theaters (and would later become incredibly well known and popular for decades) is that they just weren't sure how to market it in terms of genre ( ... )
