All right. There is no way (and I mean this--NO. WAY.) to review this movie without spoiling it for anyone who wants to go see it. I'm talking spoilers BEFORE THE TITLE of the movie type of spoilers, things I cannot even mention except to say that I love the way Joss Whedon writes dialogue (and Drew Goddard, who also wrote the film, and directed it ( Read more... )

Yeah, I still feel like calling it a Horror/Comedy is going to give a lot of people the wrong sense of it. The same way calling Firefly a "sci fi western" really gives no sense of the truly fascinating, amusing, and original series that it was. I mean, even asigning labels like "cartoon/anime" to something like ATLA or LoK can create false impressions of what the content actually is. One of the reasons The Princess Bride failed in movie theaters (and would later become incredibly well known and popular for decades) is that they just weren't sure how to market it in terms of genre.

Trust me, there are parts of that movie that are really, really, really funny. And there are other parts that are just downright frightening and had several screams from the audience. And there are still other parts that are so bloody that you're hoping that they CGIed it so that the clean up crew isn't STILL working on it 9 months later...

I feel that a horror/comedy is something like "Army of Darkness," where you just cannot take it seriously or you'll be so incredibly disappointed--I feel like this is a trait of the true Horror/Comedy genre. You can take Cabin In The Woods very, very seriously at every single point. The humor is way dark.

Well that makes it sound exciting :) I'm quite easy to please anyway but there seem to have been a lot of good movies coming out lately and I love it! Back in the day before Grown-Up Jobs(tm) we used to go to sooo many movie midnight showings! I miss it!
