Thanksgiving in the Serengeti
It was still dark out when my alarm went off at 4:45 this morning. The early wake up call was because 4 of us - myself, Tia, Tanja and Sherelle were going for a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Safari in the Serengeti
The Muslim call to prayer woke me up shortly before my alarm went off this morning, and I was so looking forward to our next few days that I decided to go ahead and get up. Arusha to Karatu
Our tent did stay dry last night, but I still didn’t sleep well. I think a combination of jet lag and uncomfortable sleeping conditions were conspiring against me. So I was up early, and had plenty of time to get washed up and get our tent down before breakfast.

Nairobi to Arusha
We had to have our bags loaded on the truck by 6am, so our alarms went off at 5am. I’d been awake since 3 with jet lag, the heat and a headache. The Elephant Orphanage
The power came back on in the middle of the night, waking me up when the lights I thought I’d turned off turned on. Unfortunately the power went off again before I woke up this morning, so it was a cold shower for. The first of many this trip, I’m sure!

Arriving in Nairobi
I left Charlotte at 1:30 yesterday afternoon; I’m now sitting in my hotel room in Nairobi at 11:30pm - which is about 26 hours later. My flights were uneventful, aside from an annoying lady next to me on the flight to Amsterdam, which was more than made up for by the quiet guy who sat next to me on the flight to Kenya. A Week in Italy
Last summer I got an email about a conference in Italy - a conference on Diabetes and Pregnancy. A huge part of my practice is taking care of pregnant women with diabetes, so the conference itself appealed to me. And the fact that it was in Italy? Huge, enormous bonus! Back to Rome
Our last morning in Sorrento started with more yummy breakfast food (oh, how I love Nutella), and then a brisk walk to the conference hotel. The talks this morning were on the stuff we’re really interested in - using pumps and continuous glucose monitoring in pregnant diabetes. Conference Day 2
This morning’s lectures were all about ultrasound surveillance and timing of delivery - things we don’t do. So we totally skipped out and did some sightseeing instead.
