I joined Facebook. But I don't see what the point is. I can search for someone by name and see... their name. Well, whoop-de-fucking-do. I already know their name. What if I want to look at their profile before I make them my friend? Someone please explain what the appeal of this whole exercise it.

I'm tired after the residency, but it was great fun. Learned two friends of mine will appear in Best American Poetry 2009 (!), another got a book deal, another has been picked up by an agent, I might end up on an editorial panel at yet another magazine, I've been asked to do some editing on a book for an award-winning author, and I'm shortlisted ( Read more... )

We've been snowed in for a week and it's been awesome--an impromptu house vacation that's let me a) actually clean my house properly for the first time in...not telling how long, b) get out drafts of two or three new items for my thesis, and c) read the new Toni Morrison (quite good), an old Haruki Murakami (mostly good) and the latest Kim ( Read more... )

Just learned a large part of my undergrad college--including the dorm I lived in for 2 years--was burned down in a wildfire. No one seems to have been hurt, but it's certainly an awful thing to have happened, and very strange to see your alma mater going up in flames on CNN.

So, in prep for our now 70% likely move to Ireland, I'm forcing myself to start eating some meat again. If there's one thing I learned in Oxford (uh, the food scene and not the university--I hope I learned more there), it's that it's nearly impossible to be vegetarian in any healthy way in that sector of Europe. I am so. Excited.

I'll have a poem coming out in The Bellingham Review soon. I've been trying for that journal for some time, so this is a nice bit of news.

The top 903 albums of all time as voted on by listeners of KEXP (of which I'm a proud member). I disagree with a couple of these, but overall this is a fine-ass list.
