Chapter 25

Shun was the first one to see them come in as if his eyes were trained to notice his beloved no matter what. He smiled at how gorgeous she looked in her black dress that went down mid-thigh. It had a white lace trim at the neckline with white lace shoulder straps. Her big, doe-like eyes scanned the room and Shun smiled when they locked into his. She waved at him, then nudged Makiko that she had seen them.

Yamapi looked up when Shun nudged him that the girls were there. He saw Makiko and Maki coming their way and the two guys stood up once they arrived at the table. He smiled at Makiko and gave her a lingering kiss in greeting.

“Wow, you two look gorgeous,” Shun swoon, kissing Maki on the cheek. He pulled out the chair for her and smiled as she sat down.

“I agree,” Yamapi said as he smiled at Makiko, giving her another kiss on the lips. He looked at her black v-neck dress that had the same length as Maki’s. The low neckline was distracting him but he didn’t let on.

“Hentai,” Makiko whispered in his ear when he pulled out the chair for her to sit, and sat down.

“What are you talking about?” He leaned across the table to ask in a quiet voice, acting innocent.

“I saw you looking down my dress, you perv,” Makiko whispered back as she leaned towards him. She was frowning, but Yamapi could see in her eyes that she was kidding, but he just smiled innocently.

“Are Nino and Sho coming?” Maki asked, pointing to the empty chairs. She observed that there were two more places at their table. The guys made the girls sit across from them, their backs to the entrance so that they couldn’t see who’s coming.

“No, actually, my friend from New York and his girlfriend are coming,” Shun explained as Yamapi smiled knowingly. “She has the same birthday as you two, so I asked them to join us.”

“Oh, cool,” Makiko said. “What are the chances of another girl with the same birthday?” Yamapi continued to smile knowingly at her. She frowned, confused why he was acting weird again, but shook her head and thought nothing of it.

Shun looked up and saw Toma and Mackenzie coming in through the doors. Toma noticed him and waved, pointed him out for Mackenzie, who waved also. She was wearing a black tunic puff sleeved dress with red Capri leggings. The couple headed their way when Shun motioned for them to come over.

“Konbanwa,” Shun stood up to greet them, giving a hug to Mackenzie. “Happy birthday.”

“Thanks,” Mackenzie replied as she hugged him back.

“I’d like you to meet my girlfriend, Maki and her sister, Makiko,” Shun pointed to them with his hand.

Maki and Makiko looked up to greet her, but their voices caught in their throats. They stared at her with gaping mouths, and Mackenzie mirrored their shock expressions.

“OH MY GOD!!” the triplets exclaimed in unison, covering their mouths in shock. The guys laughed at how they perfectly synchronized their movements were. The other patrons gaped at them as well. It wasn’t everyday to see identical triplets, but they soon resumed to their meals.

Makiko looked back and forth between the girls, Shun, and Toma. Maki stood up and came closer to her.

“Horikita Maki desu,” she voice barely audible as she choke back tears of joy. “It’s great to finally meet you.”

“Chotto matte,” Mackenzie swallowed. “You mean, I have sisters?” She looked at Toma for confirmation, and he nodded.

Makiko had stood up, too, and came over to her. She introduced herself as Makiko Watanabe.

“Demo, I don’t want to be a Watanabe anymore,” she said sadly. Mackenzie looked at Toma for explanation, but he just told her that he’d explain later.

Mackenzie stared back and forth between the two girls in front of her. It was surreal to see two other girls looking exactly like her. So these were her real sisters that she wouldn’t have known. Tears followed slowly from her eyes when she realized how close she was into not knowing about her real family and she hugged the girls simultaneously.

The triplets cried and hugged for a few moments before pulling away, each wiping her own eyes. They sat down for dinner, but they couldn’t stop looking at each other and smiling happily.

“Are you all surprised?” Yamapi smiled widely and he appeared to have been crying, too. He reached across the table and squeezed Makiko’s hand. She and her sisters nodded. “It was my idea,” he boasted.

“What?!” Shun protested. “I had the idea when I saw Mackenzie in New York. It was my idea.” He looked at the girls and nodded.

“Whatever, you just said you wanted to surprise them, but it was my idea to meet for dinner on their birthday,” Toma interjected and frowned at the other two guys.

“Well, I suggested to eat here at this hotel’s restaurant, so it was my idea,” Yamapi retorted. He moved his head closer to Toma and grunted. Toma did the same thing, and Shun had to separate them since he was in the middle in the line of fire. The girls stared at them and tried not to smile at their childishness.

“Who’s paying?” Maki asked suddenly. Toma and Yamapi stopped bickering and pointed to Shun at the same time.

“Then it’s Shun’s idea,” Mackenzie noted with finality, earning groans from the two guys.

They all had a good laugh over that, and soon everybody was back in a festive mood. They talked about how their lives have been up to that point, and the triplets finally acquainted themselves with each other. At the end of their dinner, the wait staff sang them a birthday song and present three pieces of cake for each celebrant. The girls beamed and blew the tiny candles on the cake at the same time.

After dinner, they went to the front of the hotel to say goodbye. “Well, we’d better go,” Mackenzie said reluctantly. “My brother Eiji invited us to his gig at some club.”

“Wentz Eiji?” Yamapi guessed. “As in the Wentz in the duo WaT?”

Mackenzie smiled at him I amazement. “Yeah. You know them?”

“Not personally, though my friends told me about them from that open mic competition.”

“Wow, small world, huh?” Mackenzie said. Toma honked the car horn, and Mackenzie waved a final goodbye before she headed to the car. Toma waved from the car goodbye, before they drove off to the club.

Yamapi and Makiko said goodbye to Shun and Maki, and Makiko smiled secretly at her as she gave her sister a goodbye hug before following Yamapi to their taxi.

##

The ride back to the apartment the Horikita sisters shared was a blur. All the way from the hotel, Yamapi and Makiko made out at the backseat. They barely remembered to pay the taxi fare, as Yamapi handed the driver money closed to the exact amount before they slid out of the car. They stood there for a moment under the street lamp kissing each other hungrily, their arms encircling around each other. They stumbled up to the second floor to Makiko’s apartment as they barely kept their hands and lips off each other.

They staggered inside the apartment like drunkards, still making out. Yamapi lifted her up onto the kitchen counter and started to kiss her neck while his hands were caressing her thighs. Makiko moaned from his kisses and closed her eyes, which suddenly opened when she remembered something.

“Pi?” She heard Yamapi him groaned in response. “Is this the right time and place now?”

“No,” Yamapi mumbled in her neck. Makiko pushed him off in frustration, and jumped off the counter in a huff.

“Why the hell are you making me hot for you then?” she hissed at him and made her way to the room. Yamapi trailed behind her.

“Makiko, wait,” he said and turned her around, tripping on the rug that made them both fell on the bed. Makiko looked in his eyes when he landed on top of her when they fell back. She was about to tell him to get off, when he slowly lowered his head and took her lips in his. She melted into his kiss and reached around his head and ran her fingers through his hair.

“Now it is,” Yamapi mumbled on her lips, and Makiko smiled.

“About damn time,” she mumbled back. They laughed as Yamapi reached to turn off the lamp on the nightstand and they helped take each other’s clothes off in the dark.

##

“Toma,” Mackenzie moaned meaning for him to stop for a moment, but he took it differently and kissed her neck more deeply. Mackenzie slowly nudged him off her, and he groaned in protest.

“Eiji is waiting for us inside the club,” she explained to her pouting boyfriend. He groaned, but followed her out the car to get inside the club. They were at the club’s parking lot making out for a few minutes, but it wasn’t enough for Toma. Once they got through the bouncer, Mackenzie scanned the crowed room full of socializing people for her brother. She spotted him flirting with a girl at the bar, and she made her way over with Toma in tow.

She went up to Eiji and kissed his cheek, surprising him and the girl. “Hey, have you been waiting long?” She asked and smiled sweetly at her brother. Eiji narrowed his eyes at her while the girl left in anger. Mackenzie laughed sadistically at her stunt.

“Shit, Mackie,” Eiji protested. “I was gonna get laid tonight. If you keep this up, I may not get any.”

“Join the club,” Toma mumbled as he sat at the counter and pouted. The Wentz siblings just stared at him blankly, and Eiji suggested they find a table.

“Drinks on me, guys,” Eiji offered as they sat in an empty booth, motioning for the waitress for their order. They talked for a while as they enjoyed their drinks before Eiji excused himself to get ready to perform.

“Do you think Shun will do it?” Mackenzie suddenly asked. Toma gave a small laugh and shook his head at the irony.

“Baby, I’m sure he and Maki are doing it right now,” he said with a hint of envy. “I bet Yamapi is getting lucky himself.” Toma mumbled as he took a sip of his scotch. Mackenzie slapped his arm.

“You know what I mean with Shun,” she reprimanded. Toma looked at her and smiled.

“Yeah. He’ll definitely do it. He loves her.”

After watching WaT performed five songs, Mackenzie made her way backstage to congratulate her brother and his friend for doing a good job. Eiji handed her an envelope, and she found a key card of a hotel room inside.

“Oh my god, Eiji! Our relationship isn’t the sequel to ‘I Love My Little Sister.’ There’ll never be a ‘I Love My Little Brother’ starring us!” Mackenzie protested a little too loudly. Eiji stared at her in shock and waved his hands no, looking around in embarrassment.

“Baka, that’s for you and Toma,” Eiji hissed at her. “What do you take me for?”

Mackenzie laughed hard and clutched her stomach, amazed at how she managed to pull two pranks on Eiji within the last few hours. She hugged him in appreciation, but he quickly pushed her off, saying that people might get the wrong idea now. She waved goodbye and made her way back to her pouting boyfriend. Toma’s mood lightened up when she showed him Eiji’s gift. He grabbed her hands and practically pulled her out to the parking lot. He had been wanting her all night and he was not to wait a minute longer.

##

After they had said goodbyes to the other four, Shun and Maki had gone up to the hotel room that Shun had reserved so they could be alone. Maki snuggled closer to him in bed, and placed her arm over his chest and sighed contently. Making love to him always leaves a smile on her face afterwards, and tonight was no exception. She could stay in his arms forever.

“So, how happy are you that all three of you are finally together?” Shun asked as he kissed her forehead. Maki looked up at him and smiled.

“As happy as being here with you now,” she said truthfully. Shun shifted to sit up.

“Do you want another surprise?” he asked, and without waiting for a response, he got up and turned on the light. Maki propped her head up with her hand as she watched him walked to his overnight bag.

“Hey, Oguri, nice butt,” she catcalled to him across the room. Shun looked over his shoulder to her and slapped his butt cheek, making her laughed heartily. He got something out of the bag and hid it swiftly behind him as he made his way back to her. He jumped on the bed as he sat in front of her, and she sat up and leaned on the headboard.

“Close your eyes and put out your hands,” he commanded, smiling widely as he waited for her to do so.

Maki eyed him with a raised eyebrow before complying to his request. She closed her eyes, leaned forward and bent her legs. She propped her hands on her knees, wiggling her fingers excitedly. She felt Shun placed something light on her hands.

“Can I open my eyes now?” She asked excitedly. When Shun told her okay, she opened her eyes and gasped at what she saw. A small box sat on her palms, and tucked inside was a 14k white gold ring with a princess cut diamond in the center. On both sides of the stone were two smaller rectangles that had two small diamonds set in. The band had four set-in small diamonds on each side.

She stared at it for a moment, unable to register what she was seeing. When she watched Shun took the ring from its velveteen cushion, it finally dawned on her what he had in mind. He took her left hand gently while her right hand flew to her mouth in surprised.

“Horikita Maki, ever since I’ve moved in next door to your apartment, I’ve been drawn to you,” Shun’s voice broke a little as he looked in her eyes. “I’m glad I got to know you more and now I know for a fact that you’re the one for me.” He paused to sniff and choked back a sob. “I love you so much and I’d be the luckiest man in the world if you’d do the honor of being my wife. Will you marry me?”

Maki nodded and choked out a yes. Through her tears, she watched him slipped the ring on her finger. She smiled at him and placed her hands on his cheeks and moved closer to straddle on his lap.

“I love you, too, Shun,” she choked out, looking in his eyes. She leaned in for a kiss while Shun caught her lips and wrapped his arms around her to pull her closer, their kisses more passionate than ever before.

Two Months Later

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the wedding officiator said with a wide, happy grin. “You may kiss the bride.”

Maki turned to Shun and caught his eyes looking deeply back to her. She turned her head back just in time to see Hiro giving his new wife a kiss. They turned to face the guests when the officiator announced the newly wedded Mr. and Mrs. Mizushima. As a maid-of-honor, Maki helped Mao out with holding her bouquet through the ceremony and handed it back when the couple walked down the aisle to the back of the church and out of the doors.

“Omedettou,” Maki greeted them during a break from greeting guests at the reception. The couple, who were standing near the entrance, beamed at her. Mao looked gorgeous in her empire waist gown that flatters her protruding stomach and Hiro looked sharply in his tuxedo. They suddenly covered their eyes and yelped.

“Nani? Doushite? Maki asked in alarm. Hiro and Mao laughed when they succeeded in their prank.

“The glint from that rock in your hand blinded us for a second,” Mao teased.

“Omedettou yourself,” Hiro interjected. Maki made a face at her cousins for tricking her, but she laughed good-naturedly at their joke. Makiko and Mackenzie, along with the guys, appeared from behind Maki to congratulate them as well.

Others guests came up to greet them and were slowly piling up to give their congratulations, signaling the triplets and the guys that they better get back to their table. When they were chattering about something random, Riiko came up their table and stood behind Mackenzie.

“Baby Girl Three, it’s so good to finally meet you,” Riiko suddenly sobbed. “I know you’re Mackenzie, but…” she covered her mouth with a hand when she choked back a sob. Mackenzie got up and hugged her aunt she had heard so much about but never had a chance to meet until now.

“Tadaima, Auntie Riiko,” Mackenzie sobbed as well. Riiko handed her an envelope.

“I promised Sachiko to give this to you when you all are together finally,” Riiko said as she looked at the triplets before excusing herself from their presence.

Mackenzie sat back down and gave the letter to Maki, who took it from her slowly. She took out the letter, and read out loud their mother’s words:

“My Dear Girls,

Since you are reading this, that must mean that Maki had finally found you two, and that I’m no longer in your midst. I’ve been sick and I tried to hold on much longer until I could see both of you again and hold you in my arms, but it’s a losing battle for me.

I’ve searched everywhere and never stopped wondering where you might be. I hoped and prayed that wherever you were, you were happy and well, growing up to be beautiful women full of dreams.

I may not be able to say it to you face to face, but I want you to know that I love all three of you with all my heart and one day, we shall see each other again together with your dad.

Take care, my daughters. Hug each other for me, and take care of each other. Find good men that you can spend the rest of your life with, and be happy.

With all my love, hopes, and dreams,

Your Mother,

Sachiko Horikita”

Maki cried when she read the last part and looked up at her sisters. Makiko was crying with tears streaming down her face and Yamapi gently wiping them away. She had gone through so much growing up, and he had been beside her through her most trying time. They finally found love from her real family and from each other.

Maki turned to look at Mackenzie and Toma. They were meant to be together even before they met face to face. No two people could complement each other than these two talented individuals. Their love for each other blurred the differences of their social background, proving to those around them that love knows no border.

As for her, Maki felt very fortunate. She struggled on her own to find a balance between school and work, and the burden to find her sisters. The man sitting beside her, the man she was getting married to, had lifted the weight off and helped her find her family and put them back together again. She turned to Shun and smiled at him.

Maki turned back to look at her sisters sitting happily with their respective partners, and contentedly smile. Their mother’s dreams had come true.
