I am the Only Person who likes the iPad

So, a few days ago, I watched in amazement of the iPad. It's a beautiful device, that.. to me, felt, futureistic. It was fun, it was functional, and it was sexy. As a game designer, I saw some awesome potential from such a powerful device. Bottom line, I loved it ( Read more... )

Let's just take movie watching as an example: A laptop will have an optical drive to watch DVD/BR from, much higher resolution, USB connections and/or card readers to load movies from external sources and lastly, a more correct and comfortable viewing angle without having to hold it in your hands.

In my head, there's still absolutely no reason for me to fill the nonexistent gap between my HTC HD2 and my Alienware laptop.

I'm sure the iPad will be great when the 3rd iteration comes out, but this one is simply too crippled. Save for the e-reader part, my phone does the same and in some respects outperforms the iPad.

And I know you shouldn't base your own opinion on what others think, but every single tech blog I've read are either incredibly disappointed or indfifferent at best towards it.

Alright I'll take your example. Say I'm laying in bed, So my choices are stare at a tine.. in your case 4.3 inch screen, or have a big 10 lb Computer sitting on my chest, or have me in some odd angle to watch that movie. While the laptop is blowing hot air, from the GPU/CPU showing this movie, and the possible disc drive spinning ( ... )

I've never had those problems with my laptop... And I have one of the biggest and heaviest laptops on the market.

And I wouldn't compare tech blogs to the people of Wal-Mart. Most of them make a living off of gadgets such as this, so they know what they're talking about.

What kind of problems?

And as far as tech bloggers, And even many of us, We are the minority, Some tech bloggers even admit that with all the little gadgets they see, They can be disconnected from what the general public will like.

Yeah, i've been looking at that one.. That's a nice concept, possibly a good netbook replacement. But as I don't see the iPad as a laptop or netbook replacement it's not quite the same.

Besides, alot of what sold the iPad for me was the UI and games. I can't look at the iPad's Address book, email client, and calander and feel like it's beautiful and intuitive. Secondly on this thing, there is the matter of performance.

Well the tablet part has almost exactly the same specs as the iPad, with the added bonus of being able to connect it to the base and have a fully functional laptop with graphics card, bigger processor, optical drive and all the connections you need.

Lenovo is actually taking the same concept to the cellular market with LePhone (I love the name :P), but that's not so much for me.

But I already have a laptop with a bigger screen, more powerful processor and such. Let me see the UI and the useability.

And what I wouldn't give for the US to have Europe's Cell phone industry.

my biggest gripe with the iPad is that Apple is doing everything they can to lock people into Apple. The only reason the iPad doesn't have Flash support is to force people to get their media, games, and apps from iTunes. Talk about vendor lock-in.

If Microsoft tried this, we'd see them get sued, again, for anti-trust. Apple, however, gets away with it.

This attitude of Apple's is why I won't be buying an iPad.

Apple is also doing the best they can to force people to buy extra accessories for their products... If you want USB support for the iPad, you have to buy a proprietary Apple cable - Along with the proprietary stand and keyboard and everything else marketed by Apple.

I remember when I had an iPod Touch - A nice little gadget surely, but it pissed me off that Apple was throwing new software and apps on new models, while if you already owned one, you had to PAY to get the same software as a new one.

I'm still surprised EU hasn't fined Apple out of this world, considering how much they've fined Microsoft, over something as simple as including Media Player in Windows - The result is that you can now buy 2 versions of Windows - With or without WMP.

Yeah, Apple pisses me off in many the same way. Apple stuff is locked to Apple stuff. iTunes offers such a wealth of great content, in their movies and TV shows, but I have to be in the Apple eco system to enjoy them. I can get a Zune HD, which is a superior product to the iPods, but.. then I lose out on a ton of content and a simple way to get to it. I was a casualty of the Palm Pre vs. iTunes wars of 2009 ( ... )

This may not come as any surprise knowing my stance on Apple, but the iPad is about as underwhelming a product as any I've seen come out of Cupertino in several years ( ... )

No matter what the critical pundits say, I don't think there's any realistic doubt that the iPad won't fly off the shelves and sell a million units on release day. In some sense, Apple doesn't even have to move a finger - the media buzz alone will move units.
