I kind of think of it just as being what it is. *shrugs* When I look through my miscellaneous short fiction, I'm surprised by how much of it has a Japanese-ish setting!

Oh wow, that's a compelling 10-minute video about Niagara. I went there with my mom in 2007 and we watched a short film about the various histories and mythologies associated with the falls, but for some reason I don't recall anything about the 1912 tragedy... (also, it happened on August 4th?! that seems like a very odd time for the falls to be frozen!) I might have seen the plaque, had I ever crossed onto the Canadian side, perhaps.
On that same page: "CORRECTION: At one point in this video I give the date of this incident as the 4th of August. I should, in fact, have said the 4th of February."

Ah okay. It caught my attention so suddenly when they said August (I went there in the hot August summer, in fact) ^^
