He forgets about the itch the next morning - it doesn’t come back, though he still makes sure to be extra careful about interaction with patients or medical staff, sort of like to make up for that night. He’s being dumb, but he’d alarmed himself with his behavior; he’d promised himself not to let himself get so vulnerable, to let his guard down

The itch fades to nothing again by the time he's done for the day, and the next day when he walks past Ward 1106 he peeks through the windows in the door discreetly - why he has no idea - but Chanyeol's not there anymore; his bed houses a new patient. Yifan's hadn't been expecting anything else, because observation for 24 hours is plenty for anaphylactic shock, but his heart seems even disappointed at this and he immediately smacks himself mentally. Hearts aren't physically capable of disappointment, Christ, get your head the right way back up, Wu Yifan, but it doesn't escape him that is heart is back to that droning flatness it was before, falling a little in his chest cavity

The next time he sees Chanyeol the tickles are back full force, and fuck if he hasn't noticed a pattern by now. Chanyeol is leaning against the wall outside his office, his hands jammed into his pocket, head bobbing a little to the music Yifan presumes is coming out of his headphones. Chanyeol smiles when he sees Yifan, then frowns a little, hand touching his heart for a bit, like the tickles were back for him, too. This is getting to be something out of the movies and it is freaking Yifan out

Chanyeol continues to bump into Yifan in the hospital and that hum goes right on with acting up only in the presence of Chanyeol, so much that Yifan's beginning to get used to it. Look forward to whenever Chanyeol calls him to ask him out for dinner, really, because the dullness in his chest when the hum is not there pales so much in comparison. In the meantime, they smile and chat and dine their way to becoming good friends, or perhaps something more than good friends
