The itch fades to nothing again by the time he's done for the day, and the next day when he walks past Ward 1106 he peeks through the windows in the door discreetly - why he has no idea - but Chanyeol's not there anymore; his bed houses a new patient. Yifan's hadn't been expecting anything else, because observation for 24 hours is plenty for anaphylactic shock, but his heart seems even disappointed at this and he immediately smacks himself mentally. Hearts aren't physically capable of disappointment, Christ, get your head the right way back up, Wu Yifan, but it doesn't escape him that is heart is back to that droning flatness it was before, falling a little in his chest cavity.

It seems that luck is on his heart's side, however, when he about walks into Chanyeol the next day. The warmth in his heart is back - it's doing a little jig in his chest and a word appears in the back of his head: frisson.

Yifan doesn't have time to ponder the ridiculousness of this "frisson" when Chanyeol looks up, flusteredly apologising, then breaks into a wide smile when he sees Yifan.

"Hello!" Chanyeol grins, his teeth glinting in the harsh hospital lights. "Nice to see you again!"

"Hello," Yifan replies, offering a much more muted, but sincere smile. "I thought you've been discharged already."

"Yep!" Chanyeol says. "But I'm a candy striper at the pediatric unit, so I come by here quite a bit."

"Oh." Yifan is distracted by how his heart is doing these little flips and jumps. What the fuck.

"Also, could I ask you a question?"

".....sure," Yifan hears himself volunteer.

"Do side effects of that immune shock thing I had include heart..... tickles? Because I swear I felt this yesterday, and I think I feel it now. Should I see a doctor about this?"

Holy shit. Yifan is gobsmacked.

"Heart... tickles?" He manages, just to confirm.

"Yeah," Chanyeol makes a little amused giggle, "sorry, I don't know how to describe it, there's probably some real difficult medical term for it, but my heart just ....seems to do this sort of little jig? Sometimes?"

It is a few seconds before Yifan can come up with an answer.

"Do you want me to check it out? I'm a cardiologist." Yifan has no idea why he's volunteering so many things to this young man, but it's like watching a trainwreck, some sort of perverse fascination. He could really figure out what was wrong with this guy, and with himself.

They wind up in Yifan's office after an ECG and a blood pressure test. Everything seems normal, which makes Yifan very disappointed, but he doesn't show it.

"Everything seems normal," he tells Chanyeol, who clearly registers relief.

"Phew, wow, I thought it was bad," Chanyeol says, "damn those peanuts."

"Peanuts?"

"I'm allergic and was dumb enough to eat that cupcake. Though it was as good as they advertised."

This coaxes a genuine laugh out of Yifan, which seems to make Chanyeol very happy.

"Thanks, uh, Dr Wu," Chanyeol glances at his name tag on his coat.

"No problem," Yifan says, feeling the tickles in his heart radiating warmth. It feels very nice, but Yifan is still baffled at it all.
