Question for porn writers, because I am curious: when you're writing a sex scene, do you find it hot while you're writing it? Or are you too worried about making the words sound right, dealing with slash pronouns, that sort of thing?

I'm too busy editing as I write, concentrating on syntax, pronouns and grammar, to consciously find it hot. On the other hand, it helps to be generally "in the mood". There's nothing worse than writing a sex scene when sitting in the corner and sucking your toes sounds more appealing. I like to be in a very sensual frame of mind when I write a sex scene, it helps get me into that headspace. Does it give me a hard-on, though? No, it doesn't. Kind of wish it did, but that might be more distracting than anything else. XD

Ah, that makes sense, that you'd have to be in the right mood. But yes, if you were too turned on you'd probably never finish the scene, LOL.

I think when you're writing a first draft of porn it's important to find it hot - if you don't why should you expect anyone else to. After that however when you're editing and redrafting it's not to hot.

And then hopefully when you go back to read it a year later you will find it hot again, right? :-) Thanks for weighing in!

Thank you so much for the rec!:)

I'm so definitely clicking on the Ollian story cause well, it's written by a fabulous writer of course, but I have missed those boys something fierce.

Question 3:

Most of the time I'm too busy trying to get the emotions to go along with the action that I don't pay attention to it, at least not as a reader. There have been times where it sunk through but for the most part, the brain is too involved in the writing process. Once I re-read it, I usually like it. :)

You're welcome! Decent friendship fic in QaF is way, way too rare.

Hope you like the VL fic -- it's wonderful.

Haha, well, I'm glad you like your own porn eventually. :-)

*cries* I always have to check! No doubt there's at least one fic from me out there with that confusion

I often find writing porn hot! Part of it is very much that for me I'm generally writing something I really want to read, and I know my own tastes. :D Oh, and I re-read my porny fic on occasion and find it hot then as well.

I suppose the last steps of search/replace or verifying canon details isn't something I think of as hot, but...I'll often work on two levels at once, if that makes sense, and think, "Damn, need a comma there -- damn, that's a great moment when he lifts her up and...", & etc.

At least you check, though! There are certain words that for some reason I have a mental block about (I can never remember how to spell "vacuum," for instance -- I always want to put another C in there), but I look it up so I get it right and everybody's happy. That's all I ask. ;-)

I am glad to hear you find your own porn hot! I always think it would be a bummer if my favorite authors are missing out on the awesomeness of their own writing just because it is indeed their own writing. :-P

I'm not a porn writer but I've written some porn and yeah, I find it hot, at least the first time out, when I'm just throwing the words down on the page. It becomes less so as I have to go back and rewrite, and rewrite. Most times though, when I go back a few days later to read the scene fresh, it's hot all over again. If it's not, then I've tried too hard and there are more rewrites ahead. Obviously, I write for myself.

*nods* Your process makes sense to me!

Obviously, I write for myself.

I think that's the best way -- maybe even the only way -- to do it.
