In a bit of extreme good fortune I landed what amounts to an apprenticeship as a research and development machinist at a medical device startup company. Our product is still under NDA so I'm not allowed to say much about it, but the work is interesting and diverse, and I deal with some very capable people. It pays, too, which is also nice.

I was watching a YouTube video that some guy made from clips from Maker Faire, and wouldn't you know it but my robot was in there (time index 6:08). Heh.

There was a small wildfire in the Pogonip city park, less than a mile from UCSC. Two CDF air tankers orbited overhead, even while local fire trucks were still making their way to the site.
