Hey, I'm guessing a lot of you come from a place that has some kind of holiday like Thanksgiving, or at least something like it.

Where I'm from, we just... gathered together on this day, made a veritable feast from what little we had and spent the rest of the night eating, drinking and making merry.

I like to think it's a good time to reflect on what

I've always enjoyed feasts, even if I had to work. There was always plenty of food though...and probably too much wine.

I'm thankful for the new friends that I've made. But also for the old ones that I've been given the chance to see again.

Well, there were the boring speeches to stand through. Kings love the sound of their own voices.

About...eight months, I suppose. Some good, some...really not good. [Because even 'bad' doesn't do it justice.]

[Unfortunately, the story of King Arthur was not part of Angel bible school and Cas just... fails to catch the reference.]

[More than fine with Merlin: he doesn't have to answer questions about his lack of a beard or pointy hat.]

Likewise, Cas. I'm a manservant. But...to the Crown Prince, which is an honor. At least I've been told as much over the years.

So eight months, huh? Mind if I ask you if you've noticed any patterns to the whole Mist thing?

Paycheck...? Oh! You mean like wages. Well, my necessities were always met.

[That question earns a sigh.]

I wish. It's a very...random sort of magic.

[Huh... okay, so this guy comes from someplace or... some time when there were kings and magic, based on the ease of which he talks about both. But he can't really jump to conclusions... after all, after eight months here, he's bound to get exposed to some world-shattering revelations.]

Magic? You familiar with that kind of stuff?

Oh yeah, really familiar.

[He looks mischievous for a moment.]

But it's nothing special. Most sorcerers are.

[Genuine interest, not that there wasn't any before, but it just increased tenfold.]

[Merlin blinks once before nodding, reminding himself that he shouldn't be so casual about it just because he doesn't have to keep it a secret anymore.]

Yeah. Well, I didn't get my magic from studying. I was just born with it. Though I've learned different spells and such with it since then.

Are there sorcerers where you're from?

Yeah, definitely. But none of them are really as young as you are, and they're... generally bad news, to be honest.

Hey, you must be some kind of savant, huh?

Mm, that's not entirely uncommon where I'm from either. People can use magic for selfish reasons. Not all of them do though.

[Cas thinks of some kind of example that might be more relevant to Merlin's assumed timeline.]

Specialist in something, I guess. Only maybe that's not quite the right word to describe someone with natural talent, huh? How about... prodigy?
